Pablo Ziegler Trio
Nobody embodies the authentic style of Astor Piazzolla today like the Grammy-awarded Argentine pianist Pablo Ziegler. Complex rhythmic twists flow with dancer's elegance from his fingers. He combines angular, dissonant motifs, throws lyrical themes to the guitarist, and picks up the singing melancholy of the bandoneon – at times countering it with cascading sounds, at other times with sparkling runs. Pablo Ziegler connects the drama of tango with seemingly playful elements of jazz. Occasionally, the tones shine like those of Debussy or Ravel. (Albert Schmaltz) Pianist Pablo Ziegler is considered the most significant composer and arranger of Nuevo Tango since Astor Piazzolla. Piazzolla opened the door – Ziegler stepped through and is now exploring uncharted paths in the garden of tango. As a former pianist in the ensemble of the legendary Argentine bandoneon virtuoso, Ziegler is well acquainted with Piazzolla's compositions and shares his love for modern jazz sounds. However, Ziegler does not only adhere to Piazzolla's formal musical structures – he also juggles with them, abstracts them, and adds his own voice. In his trio, Ziegler is supported by two extraordinary musicians who bring a unique richness of sound to his musical world. The Argentine guitarist Quique Sinesi, with whom he has collaborated since the 1990s, is widely known for his melodic sensitivity and expressive depth. Together they won a Latin Grammy and performed in significant concert halls and festivals worldwide. The trio is completed by Belgian bandoneonist Manu Comte, who adds a unique combination of virtuosity and emotional depth to the group. With a background that encompasses classical music and Nuevo Tango, his refined technique and musicality form a powerful counterpoint to Ziegler's piano. Their collaboration began with the Royal Philharmonic de Liège and has developed into an internationally recognized partnership. This ensemble embodies the finesse and emotional power of Nuevo Tango in an intimate chamber music format with a repertoire that includes Ziegler's characteristic works (La Rayuela, Milongueta) as well as reinterpretations of Piazzolla's classics – all infused with jazz-inspired freedom and interaction. Pablo Ziegler is the last living musician of the legendary Astor Piazzolla Quintet and was chosen by Piazzolla for this extraordinary quintet due to his closeness to jazz, but also his classical training. Quique Sinesi, a long-time partner on guitar and a renowned composer for classical guitar in his own right, complements Pablo Ziegler with his own style, total immersion in the music, his virtuosic playing, and improvisational skills. Besides Pablo Ziegler, he has worked with Michel Godard, Enrico Rava, Charlie Mariano, Dino Saluzzi, and is touring the world. Manu Comte from Belgium is new to the trio, but already an accomplished bandoneonist who ideally complements the two. After many years, the trio is finally going on tour in Europe again!
