The bandoneon, this mysterious Saxon instrument, formed an inseparable connection with Argentine tango around 1900. It gives tango its soul. Without this instrument, tango would surely not have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage in 2009.
It is about a dance and, above all, a music full of feeling, elegance, and playful improvisation. It tells of longings, illusions, and missed opportunities. Musically expressing these little stories is one of the many talents of this great tango orchestra.
The largest tango orchestra in Europe, with 10 bandoneons plus 10 violins, piano, double bass, and tuba, hints at how energetic, fierce, complex, and dynamic tango sounded in its heyday in the 1940s in Buenos Aires. Especially the bandoneon section is the highlight of the orchestra and gives its playing a broad soul. This is how tango may have sounded once in the suburbs of tango from Buenos Aires and Montevideo.
Under the direction of Jürgen Karthe, a fixture of the local tango scene in Dresden, CARAMBOLAGE developed an original timbre inspired by classical models of Argentine tango from the 1940s, without copying them. A concert by the Gran Orquesta Carambolage is characterized by a present and intense sound. It is captivating, engaging, and at the same time soft, tender, and absolutely danceable. And you are warmly invited to dance in our ballroom! An introductory course will begin at 8 PM.
