33. Jazztage Dortmund: Marialy Pacheco Trio
With the Cuban pianist Marialy Pacheco, one of the most prominent voices of contemporary Latin Jazz can be experienced at domicil on November 27 as part of the 33. Jazztage Dortmund. As the first woman ever, she won the prestigious Montreux Solo Piano Competition in 2012 and is now considered one of the most important representatives of Cuban jazz of her generation.
Marialy Pacheco's playing combines rhythmic precision, virtuosity, and emotional depth with the musical traditions of Cuba and Latin America, as well as influences from classical music and modern jazz. Whether as a soloist, in a duo, with a trio, or in collaboration with orchestras: her concerts are characterized by enormous expressiveness, elegance, and captivating dynamics.
Since moving to Germany in 2005, Pacheco has performed on numerous international stages and festivals, including the Montreux Jazz Festival, JazzBaltica, the Detroit Jazz Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, Birdland New York, and Ronnie Scott’s in London. Along the way, she has collaborated with artists such as Omar Sosa, Hamilton de Holanda, Max Mutzke, and Avishai Cohen.
At the center of the current program is her album "RELOAD", her most personal and mature work to date. Together with Juan Camillo Villa on bass and Miguel Altamar on drums, a contemporary, energetic trio sound emerges that impressively unites Cuban roots, Latin American traditions, and classical influences. "RELOAD" is at once highly virtuosic and immediately accessible – a musical melting pot full of emotion, groove, and life experience.
