A man writes a thank-you letter. A woman responds. That's how it begins. “Lélé” is the invented correspondence between two people who could not be more different and could not live further apart. An older widower thanks a result of an online order - a custom-made dog collar with the embroidered name “Oskarla”. Rather unexpectedly, a woman replies. She, incarcerated in a correctional facility, has made the collar, which belongs to the product range of the website “Mit Haftung”.
What starts as a formal dialogue soon becomes more. An exchange develops between two very peculiar characters, who neither address their mutual lostness nor their respective imprisonment, but consistently let it be felt. The two have much to give each other, until there is nothing more to lose.
“Lélé” was literally written for the stage and film stars Julia Jäger and Matthias Habich. Both have themselves written history multiple times, with classics such as Fritz Umgelter's “The Strange Life Story of Friedrich Freiherr von der Trenck” or Detlev Buck's “Karniggels”, on stages from Vienna to Leipzig, winning Oscars for “Nowhere in Africa” and “Toyland”, and even once together in the television epic “Klemperer - A Life in Germany”. For “Lélé”, Julia Jäger and Matthias Habich met for the first time on a theater stage.

Like a wanderer between cultures, the Oud virtuoso and composer, born in Lebanon and now living in France after a long stay in Germany, combines Arabic, European, and American music into a highly intelligent mélange, far removed from any World Music trends. Unbiased, with a keen mind, high playing and compositional competence, and a good dose of humor, he succeeds in an extraordinary way to blend the often contrary worlds together. He has also gathered great names from the world of jazz such as Charlie Mariano, Kenny Wheeler, or Joachim Kühn around him, as well as classics: the Ensemble Modern, the Balanescu Quartet, the Kronos Quartet, or the BBC Symphony Orchestra. His work is so successful that he was awarded the Jazz Award five times in one year; in 2002, he received a certificate of honor for the German Record Critics' Prize for his life’s work. “In Psycho, I led the audience as if I were playing on an organ,” said Alfred Hitchcock in a conversation with his admirer François Truffaut. Hitchcock understood “Psycho” as an experimental film meant to have a striking effect on the audience. The actor Matthias Brandt now reinterprets this cinematic masterpiece on stage together with pianist and singer Jens Thomas. Brandt draws on elements from the literary source. Thomas, referred to by Süddeutsche as the "Jimi Hendrix of the piano", improvises a soundtrack to Brandt's staged reading. This evening is not fixed and rehearsed in a routine manner; rather, it thrives on the intense, spontaneous interaction between the two performers. “Jens Thomas and Matthias Brandt created an extraordinarily dense, uniquely individual scenario in the improvisation with text and sound, a sound and associative space filled only with imagination, in which a occasionally soft ironic undertone was not denying but enriching,” stated the Frankfurter Rundschau.

There are still good news: Recently, a member of the Last Generation had a child, and in Berlin there is a Senate resolution stating that new streets may only be named after female individuals, including dead ends.
The science cabaret artist and physicist Vince Ebert takes stock: Have we become more rational, more composed, or even wiser in recent years? Spoiler alert: No, we have not. Only 18% of the population wears a bicycle helmet, but 91% use a protective cover for their phone. When reality becomes more and more like satire, when government statements are practically indistinguishable from articles by The Postillon – how on earth is a satirist supposed to top that?
But Vince Ebert does not give up. Outwardly, he may seem like an old white man. But that is just a social construct. In "Vince of Change," he identifies as a 32-year-old tanned surf instructor from California and thereby addresses completely new target groups. Because his mission concerns us all: In an era that is increasingly at risk of sinking into feelings, moods, and irrationalities, he defiantly holds high the flag of reason.
