About Martin O.
The loop of his story.
Martin Ulrich was born in Olten in 1975. It is safe to assume that his first cries were already in harmony. He was musically encouraged by his family. As a four-year-old, he learned to play the violin and took early childhood music lessons. Following his harmoniously musical childhood were sound-filled teenage years and his next career aspiration: primary school teacher. He practiced this profession for exactly one day. Shortly after completing his education, he decided to transition from the educational to the musical career path. As a member of the a cappella group "hop o’my’thumb," he professionally performed on both domestic and international stages around the turn of the millennium. Parallel to the founding of "Stimmart GmbH" in 2007, "Martin O." was also born. With his unique Symphonium – the Appenzell walnut loop device – Martin O. creates new, fascinating soundscapes, surprising original compositions, and song interpretations from various eras by repeatedly recording and playing back his own voice. Always with charm and a touch of humor!
His first stage program under the title "Stimmentänzer" (2007 – 2010) immediately captured the hearts of audiences and media professionals. Following that, the man of a million voices presented other humorously touching solo programs ("Cosmophon" 2011, "Der MaUSIKER" 2016, and "o solo io" 2019), continuously thrilling viewers throughout the German-speaking region and beyond. In addition to his successful solo career, Martin O. also served as the artistic director of the "Hitziger Appenzeller Chor," wrote film music, and participated in various collaborative projects (from working with symphony orchestras, folk music groups, artist collaborations to the successful "Appenzeller World Tour" that he co-initiated). He has received several significant national and international cultural awards for his work. Martin O. lives in Appenzellerland and became a father in 2015, adding another dimension to the loop, or rather the loop of his life path.
By the end of 2023, Martin O. will conjure up highlights and gems from the past 16 years and a kaleidoscope of brand new numbers in the audience with his fifth stage program "Super Looper."
