IMPOSSIBLE HORIZONS - Premiere
Between rows of houses, roofs, and backyards, an unusual view of the city opens up. Five dancers transform the main street of Dresden's Neustadt into a stage and explore places that we pass by daily. They animate this residential and shopping area with its shops and apartments, facades and windows, and question the place: How does the environment shape our coexistence? How do we share spaces with one another? Through dance, a dialogue emerges with the city that is also in motion. It grants exceptional attention to public space and adds a new experience to the familiar. The audience follows a choreographic route through the neighborhood and discovers hidden connections: Where does a home begin, and where does it end? What horizons do we see – and what usually remains invisible? IMPOSSIBLE HORIZONS is an invitation to an exploration in familiar surroundings, during which the stories of the residents are also told. The piece is inspired by the work ROOF PIECE by American choreographer Trisha Brown, who in 1971 danced with performers on the rooftops of an entire New York neighborhood.
The Dresden company situation productions, under the artistic direction of Anna Till, develops productions at the intersection of dance, performance, and installation. Their works are characterized by a particular interest in the connection between past and present and a delight in interdisciplinary experimentation. Humor, sensuality, and a poetic approach to the things of the world are central to their work. Recently, the pieces "Swan Lake in Sneakers" (2023), a production for young audiences invited to the Tanzplattform Deutschland in 2024, "KREISEN" (2023), a piece for five dancers and a live band co-produced with Residenz Schauspiel Leipzig and HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts Dresden, as well as "Eyes Open, Eyes Closed" (2025), a dance piece about aging, premiered in HELLERAU.
The dramaturge and director Nora Otte, stage and costume designer Konstanze Grotkopp, musician Johannes Till, lighting designer Martin Mulik, and producer Ulrike Melzwig are core members of the artistic team.
