Wildflower - Rhythm, Blues & Soul

The sound garden of Wildflower is the playground of five international musicians who cultivate their very own musical style, rooted deeply in the tradition of blues, rock, and soul, infused with a lot of soul and energy. Enthusiastic playing joy, pulsating grooves, and a versatile voice are the components of Wildflower power.

Singer Biggi Binder, bassist Rolf Kersting, pianist, keyboardist, and producer Jean-Pierre Barraqué from France, drummer Thomas Keltsch, and guitarist Steve Mushrush, who was born in the USA and raised in Canada, have long been among the most sought-after live and studio musicians, not only in the Stuttgart area.

Not even 20 years old, they were already on tour together. Back then, when they were founded as Dirty Curtain Bluesband and committed to traditional blues, they could point to several CD productions and numerous concert successes with guest appearances in northern and southern Germany. Their last tour before the dissolution of the band in 2006 – then renamed DC Bluesband – took them, among other places, to the Bluesfest Eutin and to the Heimatbühne at Jazztime Hildesheim. Even today, some of the concerts from that time are fondly recalled as "legendary." Now, almost 20 years later, they find themselves together again and are starting anew. Mature, full of energy, and above all, joy of playing. Their musical horizon has significantly expanded. For the restart, there is a new band name. Dawid Juszkiewicz on vocals and guitar, Janne Fahlke on bass, and Micha Michael Häfner on drums now call themselves "The Nitebreakers" and have brought in an old friend and musical companion, Hardy Schölch on tenor saxophone and vocals, to strengthen the band. Additionally, saxophonist Petra Nowacki will make a guest appearance. "Our old loyal fans – and hopefully many new ones," says guitarist and bandleader Dawid Juszkiewicz, "can expect a mix of traditional blues classics from T-Bone Walker, Freddie King, B.B. King, and Lowell Fulson."

Timeless with a Touch of Nostalgia
That is the motto of the Grammophon Jazzband from Hamburg. Whether Jazz, Swing, Lounge, or Pop, the four charming musicians seamlessly and gracefully switch between styles, giving Jazz classics and current songs a new and special aura. At the center of the quartet is the floating, brilliant voice of Nora Becker. Nora is now known throughout Germany as a singer, speaker, and vocal coach: whether as a vocalist for well-known bands and projects like NDR Bigband, Jazzkantine, Ensemble Du Verre, or as a versatile voice for famous spots in radio and television. Since 2010, the Grammophon Jazzband has been a fixed part of Hamburg's cultural and event scene, actively performing up to 80 times a year across Germany. In 2017, the debut album "Nora Becker & Grammophon Jazzband" was released. Many a nostalgic person may feel transported back to the time of shellac records and the great jazz singers – timeless with a touch of nostalgia.

An evening, three bands with regional ties, three times jazz at its finest. This is Jazz im 3erPack. The event is presented this year by JA!ZZevau Kaiserslautern in cooperation with Kammgarn. The formations Akkordarbeit, the Titus Weidenfels Trio, and the Volker-Klimmer Band will be heard.

Akkordarbeit
In the Akkordarbeit project, four musicians with rich expertise in different genres come together and let their individual experiences merge in a stylistic blend of tradition and modernity on a global sound journey. From poetic-atmospheric to energetic jazz improvisations, the dynamic range is exploited with great joy of playing. The performance at Jazz im 3erPack is also the concert premiere of the project.

Volker-Klimmer Band
Since its beginnings, the Volker-Klimmer Band has stood for musical passion, teamwork, and a distinctive sound. Founded by Volker Klimmer, the ensemble has been combining the highest musical quality with palpable joy of playing for many years. To this day, Klimmer works with a well-rehearsed team of musicians who share his artistic vision and carry it forward with energy, openness, and precision. At the center is Volker Klimmer's characteristic playing, which confidently moves between free improvisation and sensitive accompaniment. With a fine sense, he creates spaces in which his fellow musicians can unfold. He lays a supportive sound carpet on which melodies grow, meet, and develop. His special harmonies shape the overall sound, giving the music depth and color. In the balance of freedom and restraint, a musical dialogue emerges that sustains, connects, and places the interplay at the forefront. Thus, the Volker-Klimmer Band shapes a sound that appears both open, powerful, and cohesive — lively, atmospheric, and authentic.

After a long break, the Silent Jazz Trio is back on the Enz with three punts, bringing traditional and swinging jazz to the water – a special experience that has already delighted audiences in 2016 and 2017. The three musicians are established figures in the Stuttgart jazz scene: Manfred Schütt impresses with voice and clarinet, Peter Ascher provides rhythmic diversity with banjo and guitar, and Markus Widmann lays the sonic foundation with double bass and tuba – including his own compositions. Along the way, a “Stoch-In” wine tasting from the Lemberger winery at the upper weir invites for a delightful break with a view of the castle vineyard. Afterwards, the journey continues to the renovated loggers' lounge of the Mühle Auch, where a small refreshment and the second part of the concert in New Orleans style await the audience. The evening concludes on a festive note with "Blue Moon" – a musical experience that stays in memory.

In case of unfavorable weather conditions or danger due to high water levels, this event will take place in an adjusted form.

Jazz in the Totenkirche 2026 presents the Black Dog Groove Society, the band of saxophonist Katharina Maschmeyer and guitarist Nils Pollheide.

"Once you’ve incorporated the term “Groove” into your band name, you have no choice but to act on that groove, to celebrate it, as happened in the joint project of saxophonist Katharina Maschmeyer and her long-time musical companion, guitarist Nils Pollheide." – (Holger S. Jansen). The fame of their already established KaMa Quartet / Katharina Maschmeyer Quartet, which has thrilled audiences at festivals and large clubs alike in recent years, precedes them. They have been counted among the "leading and most innovative formations of the local jazz scene" multiple times. The BLACK DOG GROOVE SOCIETY is completed by Dirk Schaadt on the Hammond organ and drummer Hardy Fischötter (who has played with, among others, Susan Weinert, Henrik Freischlader, Larry Carlton).

With their new album "Dog Dance," the band presents devilishly grooving, crisp original compositions again. About the predecessor album, Holger S. Jansen wrote: "The compositions from the pens of Maschmeyer and Pollheide create a full, pressing, and incredibly lively mix, which will delight friends of retrospective Hammond jazz and funk values (…) and clearly goes straight to the ear, but above all to the head-nodding and feet – Jimmy Smith and Jimmy McGriff, to name just two of the great Hammond icons, send their regards..." "Katharina Maschmeyer and Nils Pollheide are not only brilliant musicians but also great composers with a good nose for groove, fun, and humor in music. Dirk Schaadt on the Hammond organ and drummer Hardy Fischötter contribute significantly to the driving energy of the pieces. Swinging, casual and irresistibly groovy it becomes when the Daimler Swing Ensemble takes the stage. The jazz combo of the Daimler Music Community combines the charm of the classic swing era with fresh arrangements and pure joy of playing – music that instantly gets into your legs and heart. “Swinging Melodies” is a favorite project of bandleader Felice Civitareale, known to friends of the SWR Big Band as the lead trumpeter. He plays with seven top-notch musicians. You can hear world-famous melodies such as What A Wonderful World, Fly Me To The Moon, Moonlight Serenade, Georgia, Almost Like Being In Love, Cheek To Cheek, A Shadow Of Your Smile and many other swing classics. These songs were written by renowned arrangers.

You can expect an exhilarating mixture of swing, Latin, ballads, blues, and jazz standards specially arranged for the band – from timeless evergreens to powerful solos that give each piece its own unique color. Participants will learn interesting facts about the use, effects, and significance of the plants in herbal knowledge. Additionally, there will be valuable tips on wild vegetables, raw food, and healthy nutrition. The German-French-Polish band creates its own style from global music and vocal jazz, proving that handmade, acoustic music can be not just delicate, contemplative, and colorful, but also highly energetic and powerful even without a drum kit. The multilingual French singer Marion Lenfant-Preus and Polish guitarist Alexander “Sobo” Sobocinski have been pursuing the idea of creating music without labels for an intergenerational and cross-cultural audience for over 13 years. They do this with a lot of charm, humor, lightness, and joy of playing! The well-traveled musicians and their band present their third studio album: “Gomera,” dedicated to the picturesque and culturally diverse Canary Island, where they spent many winters and gathered many song ideas. MARION & SOBO BAND sounds stylistically colorful with songs in French, Spanish, English, German, and Romani, featuring acrobatic guitar and violin solos, scat singing, original compositions, and new interpretations of old classics that the band “transforms into the here and now” (Jazzpodium).

BIOGRAPHY
The heart of the Bonn-based band is the multilingual Franco-American singer Marion Lenfant-Preus and Polish guitarist Alexander Sobocinski, known as Sobo. He hails from Poland, she comes from France (from a bilingual family: her mother is French and her father is American). Marion & Sobo, the two well-traveled musicians, met in 2010 during a jazz session in Bonn and have since been following the idea of creating music beyond boundaries with their band.

The 10-member Ulm formation jazz-ahead brings the magic of Miles Davis and his companions back to life in an energetic live evening. The band has been dedicated to jazz history and the style-defining compositions of the great jazz eras for many years. With their extraordinary lineup as a tentet (ten-member jazz formation), they specialize in the wonderful and successful compositions of Miles Davis and his accomplices—pieces that are rarely heard in this unique configuration. In their program "Die Musik von Miles Davis und Freunden," jazz-ahead presents these unique arrangements. The formation covers various styles—from hard swing and bebop to Latin and funk—bringing to light some forgotten treasures of jazz history.

Since there is hardly any sheet music available for this rare configuration, jazz-ahead has exclusive arrangements written by renowned arrangers, creating a distinctive sound that allows the classics to shine with new brilliance. The pieces are presented with small stories and anecdotes about their creation.

Drei Joker des Jazz

The trio evening "Jokers" by the French accordion virtuoso Vincent Peirani with Federico Casagrande (guitar) and Ziv Ravitz (drums) promises an energetic concert experience with a variety of lively and individual sounds between jazz, rock, and subtle electronic influences.

The pieces feel like snapshots of an imaginary film: atmospherically dense, rhythmically striking, and with a broad dynamic range. The accordion is at the center, but its sound spectrum is expanded through effects, taking on new roles time and again.

The title "Jokers" refers to a musical principle of mobility: roles shift, structures remain permeable, and the interplay is vibrant and surprising. This results in a program that convinces with its immediate expressiveness.

In the historic machine hall of the Brikettfabrik Louise in Domsdorf, the Lausitz Festival continues a tradition with this trio evening, which began there five years ago with a performance by the singer Cécile McLorin Salvant. Since then, jazz has enjoyed an especially good reputation in Domsdorf, not least because of the extraordinary atmosphere of the venue.

Thomas Scheytt is considered "one of the best contemporary Boogie and Blues pianists. He combines high pianistic skill with an incredible, deeply felt variety of expression" (Jazzpodium Germany).

On Sunday, January 10, 2027, at 5:30 PM, he will perform classics of Blues & Boogie Woogie and his own compositions at the Kurhaus in Bad Bergzabern.

Thomas Scheytt is one of the most busy musicians in the European Blues and Boogie scene. For over 20 years, he has been a guest not only as a soloist but also with his trio Boogie Connection in jazz clubs and at festivals in Germany and abroad - four times alone at the world-famous New Orleans Jazz Festival in Ascona.

Scheytt has received multiple awards. Notably, he gained recognition with the nomination of his CD Blues Colours for the German Record Critics' Award as well as winning the German Blues Award twice in 2015.
