Botticelli Baby
Into the hazardous waste bin with genre drawers, self-imposed style boundaries, or other creative limitations! In their unique sound clash of jazz, punk, blues, folk, funk, Balkan, and pop, Botticelli Baby combines the free spirit and creative drive of Sandro Botticelli with the unfiltered rebel spirit and unpredictability of rock 'n' roll. Since 2013, the North Rhine-Westphalian septet has been looking for new forms of expression – just in time for their 10th anniversary, Botticelli Baby is now ready to really let loose!
Was it fate or the soda burn? One thing is certain: singer Marlon Bösherz and trumpeter Alexander Niermann met in a club in Essen in 2013 and spontaneously decided to form a band. After the first hangover jam sessions on the famous morning after, the temporary duo subsequently recruited Jörg Buttler (guitar), Lucius Nawothnig (piano), Tom Hellenthal (drums), Max Wehner (trombone), and the youngest band member Christian Scheer (saxophone) to complete their current lineup. Today, Botticelli Baby moves smoothly between all chairs and styles, which the Ruhrpott formation fuses into a completely new eclectic in-your-face crossover.
Botticelli Baby loves experimentation and creative friction. With almost meticulous attention to detail, the musician collective works in its Essen Outer Rim with stylistic contrasts and contradictions. Botticelli Baby frees jazz from its elitist cerebralism and punk from its beer-stained shabby image. Enriched with elements of blues, folk, funk, Balkan, or pop, a highly explosive fusion emerges, for which they conveniently provide the appropriate label: Junk – a mix of jazz and punk, with which Botticelli Baby quickly earned a solid reputation as one of the most unconventional and exciting formations in Germany and beyond.
