Summerwinds Festival: Giorgi Kalandarishvili & Anna Kaczmarek-Kalandarishvili: Im Fluss mit Bach
Giorgi Kalandarishvili Oboe
Anna Kaczmarek-Kalandarishvili Violin
Giorgi Kalandarishvili and Anna Kaczmarek-Kalandarishvili are “in the flow with Bach”: in the stream of music, of life, in a flow that carries. For Johann Sebastian Bach inspires, across the ages. So it is no pun when the two call Bach “a living source” that “never runs dry.”
Brightly stirred, festive and cheerful, full of tempo and energy is the prelude from Bach's E major partita for solo violin. In contrast, Kalandarishvili presents the slow movement from the flute sonata of Bach's son Carl Philipp Emanuel, who was more famous in his lifetime than his father. Does the oboe sing the painful melody with even more sensitivity than the flute for which the piece was originally composed?
Both Bachs taught Mozart. In his opera “The Magic Flute”, among other things, a strictly fugued chorale recalls Sebastian. Concerning Emanuel, who “overcame” his father's Baroque music towards sensitivity and classicism, the Salzburger remarked: “He is the father, we are the boys. Whoever of us can do anything right has learned it from him.”
Obsessed with Bach the father, Eugène Ysaÿe shows in “Obsession” with quotes from Bach's E major partita. Moreover, the Belgian incorporates the “Dies irae” chorale from the Catholic Requiem in his solo sonata for violin. Also music from music: In “Alpensplitter”, Anatol Stefan Riemer brings to new life motifs and themes from Strauss’ “Alpine Symphony.”
With the Sinfonia from J. S. Bach's cantata “Ich steh mit einem Fuß im Grabe”, oboe and violin celebrate life and music at the end – as a dying and becoming, a continuously renewing living stream.
Giorgi Kalandarishvili is the solo oboist of the Münster Symphony Orchestra and teaches at the local music university. As a chamber musician and soloist, he performs in Europe, Asia, and South America. Anna Kaczmarek-Kalandarishvili, prizewinner of international competitions, is a member of the Münster Symphony Orchestra. She performs solo and as a chamber musician in Europe, South Korea, Canada, and Tunisia.
