by Alessandro Baricco, translated into German by Karin Krieger
with Olaf Dröge and Wolfgang Lackerschmid (vibraphone)
Director: Jörg Schur, Assistant Director: Clara Reiter
Beginning of the 20th century: A foundling child is discovered on a passenger ship and lovingly raised by an engineer who names the boy Novecento. Without ever leaving the ship or getting to know “the world,” Novecento becomes a virtuoso pianist and captivates the passengers of the "Virginian" on all the seas. Officially "stateless," he loves his home, the ship, and its crew so much that he decides against a career on land. Until years later, when the ship is finally scheduled to be scrapped....
The trumpeter Tim Tooney tells the story of Novecento - with unwavering faith in the power of poetry and friendship.
Actor Olaf Dröge is known to the Sensemble audience for his poignant performance in "Orphans" by Dennis Kelly. The renowned jazz musician, bandleader, composer, and vibraphonist Wolfgang Lackerschmid has participated in several Sensemble productions (including the Musiclets "Now he is dead, the dog", "My very dear cousin", or "Song Fever" etc.).
