JazzTime Böblingen 2026
The focus of many JazzTime concerts has been on many jazz legends. This was also the case at the conclusion of this year's anniversary concerts. John Coltrane, who would have turned 100 this year, is surely one of the most significant tenor saxophonists in the history of jazz. He played with Miles Davis on legendary recordings like Kind of Blue. He formed a quartet with McCoy Tyner on piano and Elvin Jones on drums, with which he created a very unique sound. With "A Love Supreme," a recording was created that is still regarded as a milestone in jazz today.
The saxophonist, composer, and arranger Peter Lehel studied at the music schools in Stuttgart and Budapest. As a state jazz award winner of Baden-Württemberg in 1997, he has been awarded the German Record Critics' Prize twice. He composed works for jazz formations, chamber music ensembles, and orchestras. Through his music for saxophone and clarinet, he is considered one of the most interesting artists in Germany. With his own ensembles like the Peter Lehel Quartet, Pipes & Phones, or the Jazz Ensemble Baden-Württemberg, he has traveled to almost all continents. Since 2005, he has been delighting younger audiences with the program "Jazz for kids" and since 2014 as the artistic director of the Jazz Juniors Baden-Württemberg. Furthermore, he has been teaching at the Karlsruhe University of Music since 2004 and became a guest professor at the Shenyang Conservatory of Music in China in 2007.
Kateryna Kravchenko is a Ukrainian composer and singer. She started playing the piano at the age of four and discovered her passion for jazz singing at eleven. Following her dream of becoming a jazz musician, she moved to Germany in 2018 to study Jazz/Rock/Pop singing at the Carl Maria von Weber College of Music in Dresden. From 2020 to 2022, she was a member of BuJazzO and received a scholarship from the Grizzly Jazz Foundation. Subsequently, an exchange year took her to Stockholm, where she focused on composing for a large ensemble and creating a cross-genre suite inspired by images from the Ukrainian artist Maria Prymachenko. She is currently completing a master's degree in jazz composition and jazz singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Cologne.
Arthur Clees is a musician, producer, and composer born in Luxembourg, whose work combines jazz-based improvisation, ambient electronica, and contemporary composition forms. Starting with the drums and later using the vibraphone as his main instrument, he develops a deep engagement with the diverse expressions of contemporary improvised music. After finishing school in 2021, he began a bachelor's degree in jazz composition in Dresden and Oslo, where he is currently studying. Today, he works as a performer, composer, arranger, and producer, moving equally between modern improvised music with roots in jazz and contemporary classical music.
Bassist and bandleader Axel Kühn studied jazz double bass at HMDK Stuttgart. In 2004, he founded his first own jazz formation, the "Kühntett," with which he released three CDs and won the first European Burghauser Nachwuchs Jazz Prize. In 2009, he was awarded the Landesjazzpreis Baden-Württemberg, in 2013 he was a scholarship holder of the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg, and he founded the Axel Kühn Trio, with which he has released five CDs so far, most recently in October 2025 "Vision and Movement live at Bix." As a sought-after sideman, he has worked with the HR Big Band feat. Michael Wollny, Helen Schneider, Cassandra Steen, Fola Dada, and Henni Nachtsheim, among others.
Alexander Parzhuber is a young jazz drummer, composer, and educator from Cologne. From 2014 to 2020, he completed his Bachelor of Music with a major in "Jazz Drumming" at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne. He played in BuJazzO or in the WDR Big Band with artists like Niels Klein, Jiggs Whigham, or Randy Brecker. As a DAAD scholarship holder, he studied for a year in 2020 at the Conservatoire Supérieur National de Musique et de Danse de Paris. Since 2021, he has been teaching jazz drumming at the Munich University of Music.
