Often, in the morning when reading the news, one gets the feeling that they are the only normal person in the world. Then you meet the neighbor and suddenly you're quite sure of it!
Sometimes, one could almost despair in light of their fellow humans: Deranged extremists threaten democracy, greedy profiteers threaten the environment, and the participants of "Bauer sucht Frau" threaten the mind!
And the internet is increasingly becoming a domain where mainly people roam who make Hannibal Lecter seem like a nice gentleman with somewhat questionable dining preferences. Inciters, conspiracy theorists, and science deniers set the tone, and one almost wishes for the times when such people could simply be handed over to the traveling circus.
Many questions shoot through your head:
Is the world a single insane asylum? Why am I in it too? And what can I do?
Following Lothar Matthäus, should I stick my head in the sand? But even that is becoming scarce. Just run away from it all? But where to, when you can even encounter a German tour group of retired senior teachers in the most remote corner of the Amazon? Even on Mars, you are no longer safe, because Elon Musk might be waiting for you there!
So nothing helps – it's time to roll up your sleeves and declare war on the misery!
Thomas Schreckenberger, awarded numerous cabaret prizes (e.g., Kleinkunstpreis Baden-Württemberg, Tuttlinger Krähe, and many more) takes stock of all the crazies in politics, society, and everyday life.
Naturally, protagonists from our political and celebrity scene also make appearances, which Thomas Schreckenberger brings to the stage in his usual convincingly realistic parodies, where some are more part of the problem than the solution.
Often, the fight against the crazies of the world seems hopeless, as they often possess money, power, and influence, but there remains a powerful weapon: humor! For as the great Werner Finck once recognized: “Smiling is the most elegant way to show your teeth to the opponents!”
The realization remains that while cabaret may not change the world, it can at least change the audience's mood and the artist's bank account.
And that's at least a start!
