Welcome to the midlife! What’s going on here?
Have we arrived where we wanted to be? How do we achieve satisfaction?
SWR moderator Florian Weber, in his late 40s (he says) – nearly 50 (his wife says), represents his generation in a therapy double session with renowned psychiatrist Dr. Christian Peter Dogs. 90 minutes live on stage. This is risky, as Dogs provokes to draw out patient Weber and the audience, encouraging reflection.
Where do I stand in my partnership, in my family, at work, in my relationship with parents, children, and friends? What about achievement, age, beauty, sex? Do I always have to be happy and smile? How do I get out of the hamster wheel that chases me through life?
In each live show, the topics change, ensuring that no show is like the other – each session is a new game with its own unpredictable dynamics!
Weber and Dogs often hold differing opinions. The therapist tosses conventional psychological tips out the window. On stage, both reveal intimate and provocative truths and tackle questions collected from the audience. A psycho-talk that surprises, entertains, and at times gets to the heart of the matter.
An evening full of thought-provoking insights – entertaining and inspiring.
Florian Weber is a television host and podcast creator, born in 1976. He is in the "midst of life," married, and the father of three children. For SWR/ARD, he has hosted numerous formats for nearly two decades, including the quiz show "Meister des Alltags," "Die Landesschau Baden-Württemberg," and the political talk "Zur Sache Baden-Württemberg."
He commutes between Stuttgart for his hosting and his family, with whom he lives in the Chiemgau. Increasingly, important questions about life fall at his feet, and he himself faces the challenges that his generation must navigate in relationships, careers, family, and friendships.
In the "therapy session" on stage with psychiatrist Dr. Christian Peter Dogs, authentic, very personal conversations emerge that are provocative, honest, and unconventional.
Dr. Christian Peter Dogs is a physician, psychiatrist, and psychotherapist. The 72-year-old has established and successfully led three psychosomatic clinics. His approach is based on the free choice of therapist, because "the chemistry must be right" between therapist and patient. He currently practices in his private practice in Lindau on Lake Constance.
Dogs employs unconventional methods that lead to quicker results. He incorporates his own story, not only listens but provokes and confronts patients with an antithesis to stimulate reflection. The "rebel of psychotherapy" questions many common methods of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy.
With his book "Feelings Are Not an Illness. Why We Need Them and How They Make Us Content," he was on the SPIEGEL bestseller list. What Dogs says about today’s psychological scene, how he overcame severe childhood traumas, and how he leads us to greater self-determination becomes clear in the conversation with Florian Weber.
