The most famous love story in the world comes to Nuremberg! During a celebration in the rock corridors below the castle, Julia and Romeo fall instantly and immortally in love with each other. Unfortunately, there is a small problem, because Romeo lives in the present and Julia 500 years earlier...
She is a patrician daughter who resides with her father in the Kucherschloss in the middle of the Nuremberg old town. Romeo, on the other hand, is the son of a construction entrepreneur who wants to tear down this property for her vision of a new Nuremberg.
Soon Romeo rebels against his mother and Julia refuses her father's plans to marry her off to someone else. The two want to escape and marry secretly. But how and where? Fortunately, there are allies who know about secret sluices that can transcend space and time. Just like the Franconian!
For this very own dialect was spoken then as it is today in "Nämberch gwaaft." This way, the lovers understand each other immediately. But, as always, when love breaks out, the language jumps into the poetic: originally translated from Shakespearean English. Freshly rhymed and rhythmically cheeky for modern ears. And when the romantic banter gets too much, Julia's nurse and Romeo's chauffeur translate the "Gschmarri" playfully into Franconian.
A wonderfully comedic and touching tragedy across the ages, poetic and Franconian, with Renaissance dances and modern construction sites...
Anette Röckl is known to a wide audience through her columns in NN+NZ. The director and author Christian Schidlowsky will stage this premiere. Many of our visitors know him from his direction of "Die Blechtänzerin" for the tenth anniversary of the Theater rote Bühne.
