Once again, Waldemar, Eusebius, and Kerbel return. Once more it’s: Compania Sincara plays Shakespeare – differently! But wait: “(K)Ein Sommernachtstraum”? What does that mean? Dream or no dream? Both. Buzz, buzz. How is that supposed to work? It can only work with clowns. They’re crazy. And how! This will be great theater! Really? Of course! You've dreamed of this. A Shakespeare like this has been seen here and there and nowhere else only twice! – “I had a dream. It transcends human understanding to say what kind of dream it was.”
Here they are again: Waldemar, Eusebius, and Kerbel – three clowns. And they’re waiting again. Damn it! Will they ever get out of waiting? No one knows. At least they don’t leave us behind. But there must be a solution? No, they have no solutions, but they do have songs. And so they sing – about love, the wisdom of the donkey, happiness, death, and the course of the world. And at the same time, they play with (k)ein Sommernachtstraum, but surely some craftsman scenes. This will be real “people’s theater.” They play with fairies and elves, lions and lovers, with the moon and a wall, with theater and with a puck – a deeply tragic comedy about a dream: “… and it shall be called ‘Zettel's Dream’ because he becomes hopelessly entangled.” In the end, they disappear once again. Forever? Hope remains.
With “(K)Ein Sommernachtstraum,” the Leipzig theater collective stays true to its unique style of play. This will not be an ordinary piece; it will be an evening of songs, a theater festival of transformations. Compania Sincara takes the audience on a journey through a dream on a midsummer night, where reality is paused for a moment. It goes deep down to the bottom of the Moldau and up to the clouds, to the mountain and onto the ship, to Spain or Athens, with the scythe over flower meadows, somewhere in the world. One doesn’t have to be a Shakespeare connoisseur to be taken along and enjoy themselves. Because here are these three lovable figures, the slightly rebellious clowns Eusebius, Waldemar, and Kerbel. They are what makes this evening unique and entice the audience to spin, play, and sing with them. Because that’s always possible.
After “Hamlet” (2022) and “As You Like It or What You Will” (2023), Compania Sincara, together with Schauspiel Leipzig and Schaubühne Lindenfels, brings their third Shakespeare to the stage, completing a cycle that began in 2022 with “Triad for Leipzig.” The grand finale follows! – “Well roared, lion!”
