Don Quijote - Sommertheater

The play based on the eponymous novel Don Quijote by Miguel de Cervantes is world literature that tells in a heartfelt, comical, and partly tragic way about a man who loses sight of reality and escapes into fiction. Accompanied by his loyal friend and servant Sancho, the titular protagonist sets out to perform heroic deeds and make the world a better place. Along the way, he often fails not only due to his own shortcomings but also because of a harsh and cold reality that feels like the proverbial fight against windmills. Don Quijote is humorous, epic, and raises the question: Who still needs wandering knights in our time?
So who needs knights, what is worth fighting for, and what constitutes reality? The summer theater play tells this story with a cast as fantastic as the adventures of the knights of La Mancha. In the summer theater play Don Quijote, the city ensemble and the theater ensemble bring together all generations on stage, while the concentrated joy of playing from the city unites in a piece about kindness, naivety, and reality.
