Julijan Eric & Midnight Lightnin` - Channeling the Spirit of Hendrix
Midnight Lightnin' is the band Jimi would be playing in if he were still around. In this band, his free spirit shines through fully. As you can imagine, guitarist Julijan is the main protagonist. Sometimes someone can carry such a rich legacy quite easily. He plays his solos not like dogmatic texts, but rather talks during the jams with his guitar, just as Jimi did. Not everything has to be perfect; it wasn't in the '60s either. What mattered was the expression, and Julijan handles his guitar gently, even when he plays it with his teeth. An additional bonus is that he actually plays through an amplifier built by a Hendrix amplifier technician from the USA.
Jimi had Mitch, Buddy, Billy, and Noel, and all the other cool people from back then. Julijan has Zlatko, Miha, and other cool people from today. "They are the ones who make Midnight Lightnin' possible; they are part of the magic," says Julijan Eric. And they all come from a small country called Slovenia. "Sometimes it's hard to believe that in a country with only two million inhabitants, there is someone who, just by being on stage, conveys the feeling that we are about to play one of Jimi's songs. And of course, I'm talking about Julijan," explains Zlatko Djogic, the drummer.

Just as Jimi stirred up the blues scene in Europe back then, Midnight Lightnin' is now going on their first European tour. They have decided that it is time to visit the places that still carry the legacy and boldness of the '60s. They want to find the places where the blues is still alive. "There is no better way to celebrate this music than to share it with the people," says bassist Miha Ribaric.
At Midnight Lightnin' concerts, you can hear a wide range of Hendrix hits from the Woodstock era, with the groovy bassist Billy Cox on bass, his early electrifying setlist from the Experience, and songs from his trios from 1969, both with drummers Mitch Mitchell and Buddy Miles, like Voodoo Chile, Fire, Spanish Castle Magic, Freedom, and Machine Gun.

While Jimi was a great guitar icon, he was also one of the greatest musical improvisers of the 20th century. And we always incorporate that into our musical expression.
