Weihnachtskonzert - In freudiger Erwartung
IN JOYFUL EXPECTATION II
- contemplative Advent-Christmas music for soprano, viola and organ
with the Ensemble Santa Cecilia (Lübeck)
Zsuzsa Bereznai, soprano / Semjon Kalinowsky, viola / Konrad Kata, organ
The Lübeck trio presents a atmospheric and varied program featuring works by J. S. Bach (aria from the “Christmas Oratorio”), G. F. Handel (aria from the oratorio “Messiah”) as well as Advent and Christmas songs from the Baroque, Romantic and early modern periods written by composers such as: H. v. Herzogenberg, P. Cornelius, H. Wolf, M. Reger, P. A. Yon and E. Mauersberger.
Short Christmas poems and stories as well as instrumental works by C. Saint-Saëns, J. S. Bach, G. F. Handel and H. Sitt round off the varied program. Polish Christmas songs will also be included. Thanks to an unusual vocal-instrumental lineup, the listeners can look forward to a special sound experience.
Founded in Lübeck and with an international lineup, the ENSEMBLE SANTA CECILIA has quickly captivated the northern German audience with its rarely heard instrumentation and unique programs. The ensemble's broad repertoire encompasses music from three centuries. This includes musical rarities for original instrumentation: soprano, viola and organ (continuo) as well as arrangements and adaptations of well-known works from the music literature.
Zsuzsa Bereznai, soprano
The soprano Zsuzsa Bereznai, who originates from Budapest, graduated with distinction from her vocal studies at the State University of Music in Freiburg with Ingeborg Most and Bernd Göpfert in 2003. International masterclasses and advanced studies have brought her since 2000 to Ingrid Kremling, Charles Spencer, Ulf Bästlein, Jutta Bucelis-Dean, Anna Reynolds, Jean Cox, Emma Kirkby as well as Paul O'Dette.
Her concert activity, whose repertoire spans from early baroque to contemporary music, has taken her beyond the German-speaking areas to Hungary, France, Italy and as far as Namibia.
In the production “Klingender Opernführer,” she sang the Queen of the Night in Mozart's “The Magic Flute” in 2006/07. The Taschenoper Lübeck engaged her in 2008 for the three female roles in “Hoffmann's Tales” by Offenbach at the Lübeck Theater, where she also sang the Konstanze in Mozart's “Abduction from the Seraglio” for the TOL, which could also be heard at the Rheingau Music Festival.
During the Buxtehude Festival Year 2007, she performed several times as a soloist in various Lübeck churches. She regularly appears at the Bach Days in Aschaffenburg.
She also dedicates herself passionately to song singing. As a vocal coach, she was active for the Lübeck Boys' Choir from 2001-2014 and until 2010 for the members of the Schleswig-Holstein Youth Choir.
Numerous CD recordings, such as for the Hänssler Verlag with the “Soloists Ensemble” conducted by Gerhard Schnitter or solo CDs together with baritone Jan Westendorff, document her musical accomplishments.
The ensemble Capella Ostinato, which she co-founded in 2015, is a sought-after ensemble for music of the Renaissance and early baroque. In 2019, the ensemble was a guest at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival with a Bach program.
