In Mandinka, the language of an ethnic group in West Africa, it means: Open Your Eyes. JMO not only stands for the initials of the three musicians Jan Galega Brönnimann, Moussa Cissokho, and Omri Hason, but also for the three main influences in their music: Jazz - Mandinka - Orient The first two CDs “Al nge taa” and “Dandoula Tala” were celebrated internationally by the press and the audience and are already in their third edition, having sold over 5000 copies. The music of JMO - Jan Galega Brönnimann (Switzerland), Moussa Cissokho (Senegal), and Omri Hason (Israel) revives the art of storytelling. The crystal-clear sound of the Kora (traditional African harp with 22 strings) meets the sonorous, smoky tones of the bass clarinet, supported by the various percussion instruments of Omri Hason. The interplay of Moussa Cissokho, Jan Galega Brönnimann, and Omri Hason captivates with beautiful melodies and rhythmic elegance - at their unforgettable live concerts, the three oscillate between magically transcendent moments and rhythmically explosive heights. An authentic and contemporary chamber music emerges. The trio transcends boundaries between traditional and modern sounds from Africa, Europe, and the Orient. The repertoire comes from all three musicians and showcases their diverse influences. The meeting of the three cultures, the choice of instruments, and the rich reservoir of ideas, melodies, and rhythms make the music an unforgettable listening adventure! Influenced by the cultural heritage of West African Griot songs, Moussa Cissokho sings about contemporary life in Africa and Europe. His lyrics revolve around longing, mysterious rivers, or experiences at border controls in Europe. He is part of the 42nd generation of the great Kora dynasty and Griot family Cissokho, which has shaped the tradition of West African music for over 1000 years. JMO has now been touring internationally for 10 years, having played in Japan, France, Israel, Slovakia, Holland, Germany, Spain, England, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Austria, Moldova, Czech Republic, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Italy, Romania, Slovenia, Norway, and Switzerland.
