Exquisite quintet plays from Beethoven to Musical
Like the famous Swiss Army knife, Geneva Brass is a chamber music ensemble with many talents. Its warm, expressive sound is equally suitable for the chiselled tones of a Bach fugue, the gentle murmurs of Cosma’s ballad, or the traditional melody of an alphorn. It knows how to powerfully respond to an organ, a big band, or a harmony, but also how to gently accompany a choir, a pan flute, and even a harp. The ensemble also enjoys connecting with other disciplines such as history or natural sciences. Not to mention the children, for whom it has already created two events.
Geneva Brass is a passionate advocate for Swiss culture and regularly includes works by Swiss composers such as Richard Dubugnon, Jean-François Michel, Étienne Crausaz, and Daniel Schnyder in its program. New pieces are regularly commissioned to expand its repertoire.
The ensemble is keen to present this original repertoire on its numerous international tours, and it is regarded as one of the leading Swiss ambassadors of chamber music for brass instruments. It has been invited particularly to festivals such as Cervantino (Mexico), SliderAsia (Hong Kong), Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival (South Korea), and Brassurround (Spain).
The quintet, which feels at home in any terrain, has performed under various circumstances: on a gondola on the underground lake of Saint-Leonard, with its legs in Lake Geneva at the Geneva bathhouse Bains des Pâquis, in South African slums, on the Great Wall of China, but also in the most beautiful concert halls, like Victoria Hall in Geneva.
Founded in 2001, Geneva Brass unites musicians who all hold a Master's degree from the Geneva Conservatory. Regularly invited to the Schubertiade of Espace 2, it has released three CDs that describe it well: eclectic. They have been particularly praised by critics.
