Professoren und ihre Meisterschüler - Konzert mit historischen Hammerflügeln
On Friday, October 2, 2026, at 7:30 PM, the series "Professoren und ihre Meisterschüler" will continue in the Carl Bechstein Saal. Prof. Dmitry Ablogin and Chikako Miyado present a finely tuned program on historical instruments of the foundation. Works by Haydn, Schubert, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn unfold their special sound beauty on original pianos by Anton Walter (1780), Matthias Müller (1810), and Johann Baptist Streicher (1834).
Before the concert, two guided tours of the collection of historical keyboard instruments will be held at 5:45 PM and 6:30 PM. Admission is free. However, prior registration via email at info@carl-bechstein-stiftung.de is essential due to limited participant numbers!

Chikako Miyado was born in Hiroshima, Japan. After completing her bachelor's degree in Tokyo, she continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in 2018, where she first completed her master's degree in solo piano. In 2023, she completed her concert examination there with Prof. Fabio Bidini and Prof. Sheila Arnold, followed by a master's in piano chamber music with Prof. Anthony Spiri in 2024. Since 2024, she has also been studying Historical Keyboard Instruments (Fortepiano) in the class of Prof. Dmitry Ablogin in Cologne. She is a prizewinner of numerous piano competitions and regularly performs at festivals in Japan, Poland, Italy, and Germany. As a soloist, she has performed with the Philharmonie Südwestfalen and multiple times with members of the Duisburg Philharmonic. In addition to her solo activities, she is intensely dedicated to chamber music. Together with Denis Walter Olejak, she forms a piano duo that has been awarded a scholarship from the Werner Richard – Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation. They have also been accepted into the "Best of NRW" sponsorship program, through which they have performed in various concert venues across North Rhine-Westphalia in recent years. Furthermore, they recorded for the Westdeutschen Rundfunk and performed together with the Philharmonic Choir Bonn. From October 2025, she has been receiving a clavichord as a scholarship holder from the Pianomuseum Haus Eller, which deepens her engagement with historical keyboard instruments.
Dmitry Ablogin is among the brightest and most creative musicians of his generation. As a prizewinner of numerous international competitions – including the 10th International German Pianists' Prize, the International Chopin Competition for Historical Instruments, and the International "Musica Antiqua" Competition – he captivates audiences worldwide. He has performed on renowned stages such as the Berlin Philharmonie, Köln Philharmonie, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Wiener Konzerthaus, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Konzerthaus Freiburg, Playhouse Vancouver, Queen's Hall in Edinburgh, and the City Halls in Glasgow. As a soloist, he has performed with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, among others. His discography includes numerous award-winning recordings, including Beethoven's Diabelli Variations, recorded on a modern concert grand and a historical hammer piano, Chopin's late works on his last instrument, chamber music by César Franck with the Eliot Quartet, and songs by the Mendelssohn siblings with soprano Kateryna Kasper. In October 2024, Dmitry Ablogin was appointed Professor of Fortepiano at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln.
