Ten years after the release of their first album "Xenon" (2014), the EVA KLESSE QUARTETT released its sixth and most personal and political album to date, STIMMEN, in the fall of 2024. The album collects stories of people who stand up against injustice and inequalities around the world – from Egypt to Russia to South America. And their message wants to be heard. Together with three guest musicians, Michael Schiefel, Zuza Jasinska, and Philipp Rumsch, the four musicians of the Eva Klesse Quartet have created a complex sonic universe in the form of a musical essay that does not shy away from confronting pain, sorrow, anger, and despair, while repeatedly telling of hope.
In the 30-minute showcase at Jazzahead 2025, the seven-member ensemble left a lasting impression on the enthusiastic audience with their equally intense, urgent, and deeply moving performance. STIMMEN is an enormously important and musically outstanding work.

As a reaction to the restrictions, the musicians decided to listen to individuals whose stories seemed further away than ever. This resulted in 13 new pieces in three chapters, which weave a red thread of societal upheaval: stories about life, dreams, hope, and longing. Poems and tales from and about Russian freedom fighters who bravely rebelled as long as they could. Narratives of the suffocatingly violent discrimination based on gender, skin color, (social) origin, or sexuality in the world. With the description of life stories and realities that can be understood symbolically, the individual struggles associated with them, and their consequences for those involved, the quartet carries a message of hope: individual commitment, engagement, and the fight for a livable future are worthwhile.
