Der Brandner Kaspar und das ewig‘ Leben - Komödie in sieben Bildern von Kurt Wilhelm
It is the cult piece par excellence in Bavaria: The legendary story of Brandner Kaspar, who tricks death out of a few more years of life with a drink and a card game, yet does not find happiness. The tale of the Bavarian stubborn head, who refuses to give in until the Boandlkramer offers him something utterly outrageous: a peek into paradise, just for a test. With a return guarantee. Who could say no to that?
It is a play about the most important questions of humanity: Where do we come from? Where are we going? What is the meaning of life? How do we manage to face the unavoidable transience with composure, letting go of what cannot be held onto no matter how much strength we exert? And it is typically Bavarian. Because Brandner Kaspar embodies Bavarian cleverness. With sharp intellect, wisdom, a connection to nature, and full of zest for life. Because death is not an inhuman figure; rather, he is a decent fellow of simple disposition, merely doing his job. He means no harm, and only wishes to lead people back to where they come from. There, where it is infinitely good. Because humor helps in all situations of life, even when it comes to dying. And it is simply beautiful to see how two Bazi become friends in the end.
It is the piece with which the Lindenthalers consciously focus on the theme of time: Lindenthaler Folk Theatre has now existed for 100 years. A long time, and yet it has flown by. For the anniversary, in March 2026, the story of Brandner Kaspar will be presented, as you know it yet entirely different. A special Lindenthaler version, indeed. With familiar and new faces from the cult ensemble. Stay tuned!
