“Musikkorps der Bundeswehr” from Siegburg
The “Musikkorps der Bundeswehr” was established on February 16, 1957, in Rheinbach. In November 1957, the orchestra took on tasks as part of the ceremonial honors service of the still young Federal Republic of Germany for the first time. Along with the ceremonial battalion of the Federal Ministry of Defense, the Musikkorps has accompanied ceremonial honors from the state reception of the Federal President to ambassador accreditations to this day. In 1959, the then “Stabsmusikkorps der Bundeswehr" was relocated to its new garrison city of Siegburg near Bonn. The Musikkorps was not only a popular ensemble domestically but also during foreign deployments. In numerous European countries as well as in Japan, the USA, and Russia, the Musikkorps der Bundeswehr performed with prominent gala appearances. With the redefinition of its mission in 2000 to act as a representative concert orchestra of the highest level at home and abroad, the orchestra also received its new name “Musikkorps der Bundeswehr.” Outstanding gala concerts, including as part of MidEurope in Austria, the international conference of WASBE in Sweden, and the World Band Festival in Lucerne, significantly contributed to establishing the now representative concert orchestra of the Bundeswehr in the civilian professional world. The Musikkorps der Bundeswehr has since become a sought-after ensemble and a benchmark for the brass music scene. With around 50 concerts annually, the Musikkorps captivates a diverse and interested audience with its broadly varied repertoire. In numerous events, the Musikkorps has performed alongside high-profile international artists such as Jiggs Whigham and world-renowned ensembles like German Brass. An acclaimed discography rounds out the extremely positive overall impression of this musical figurehead of Germany. The musicians in uniform are proud that in over 50 years of their concert activities, they have not only spread joy to thousands of people with their music but have also raised over 7 million euros for various charitable purposes.
