Jazz im Pool #42 - Benny Lackner Trio
“An event for the ears”
Music-on-net.de, February 2023
Pianist Benny Lackner has so far been known for his electroacoustic style. Now, with his 2022 album "Last Decade" released on ECM, he opens his music up to a new calmness that gives space, breathes, waits, and flows. The trio lets the beauty shine between the notes instead of boosting its ego through virtuosic solos. A contemplative evening with the essence of finesse and wistful maturity. Leisurely jazz that captivates with a brilliant simplicity.
The Benny Lackner Trio has just completed its fifth major world tour, performing 19 concerts in 19 different cities, starting in Auckland, New Zealand, and ending in Lausanne, Switzerland. The trio, consisting of Benny Lackner (Piano, electronics), Jerôme Regard (Bass), and Matthieu Chazarenc (Drums), was founded in 2002 in New York. Past concerts have included five intensive tours through Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Other tours have taken them to (South) America, Africa, and Europe. The Benny Lackner Trio has performed in well-known jazz clubs such as the Blue Note in New York and Birdland in Vienna, where it shared the stage with John Scotfield. Additionally, the trio has appeared at various festivals such as Traumzeit Jazz Festival, The American Jazz Festival in Paris, Montreux Jazz Festival, Leverkusener Jazztage, Augsburg Jazz Summer, and Düsseldorf Jazz Rally.
“Benjamin Lackner’s band creates moments that all present can be grateful to have been earwitnesses to,” writes the Augsburger Allgemeine in January 2023 about the renowned trio.
