What happened there? Just over two years ago, RIAN was a newcomer, albeit a hotly traded one, who drew attention with his first songs in German. One of them – “Schwarzes Schaf” – went viral in 2023 and was a taste of the fact that RIAN, who also experienced his breakthrough as a successful comedy influencer, possesses a zeitgeist and unembarrassing mainstream compatibility.
With this, RIAN has also found his style: He combines German-speaking indie pop with smart comedy and always conveys a socio-political relevance for a good cause in his output. His songs are whimsical gems that stand in the tradition of KAFFKIEZ, Danger Dan, Antilopen Gang, Falco, Manu Chao, or Jonathan Richman – upfront quite funny and danceable, around the corner deep, (self-)critical, and always empathetic. The pop line from the feet through the heart to the head has rarely felt so right.
In 2024, RIAN then hit the charts with “Verwandtschaftstreffen” from the EP of the same name: He was nominated three times for the Amadeus Austrian Music Award and reached number one in the Austrian Shazam charts, Austria Viral charts, and Ö3-Austro charts. The song was awarded Gold in Austria and is currently aiming for Platinum. With 15 million streams, RIAN has firmly cemented his place in the German-speaking music scene, “Verwandtschaftstreffen” is on heavy rotation on the biggest radio stations, and has become the life soundtrack of the fans.
On the tour for the EP, the hit, but more so his reputation as an excellent live entertainer, filled venues: After a completely sold-out “Verwandtschaftstreffen Tour 2025” and a tour finale in Vienna with over 3,000 fans, it is clear that RIAN has reached the next level. In Austria, he is recognized in supermarkets, and a fan selfie with him or “a video for the third cousin” is no longer unusual.
In Germany, the influx of fans and the appetite for RIAN shows is immense – all DE dates were completely sold out including rescheduling and extra shows. Therefore, RIAN announces an extensive tour for autumn 2025 and spring 2026: The artist will be performing in 26 cities in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland – and promises even bigger shows, even more live energy, and of course, plenty of new music.
Until the tour, RIAN is working intensively on new songs – and hints that his debut album is expected in early 2026. His mix of pop, indie, and hip-hop, paired with his cabaret-style interludes and profound lyrics, makes him one of the most exciting live acts of the year.
