For the Old Town! 50 years of the Bürgervereinigung Hofheimer Altstadt (15.09. - 03.11.2024)
On October 24, 1974, the Bürgervereinigung Hofheimer Altstadt (BHA) was founded. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the exhibition highlights the history of the association and its successful efforts to preserve the Hofheim Old Town. The zeitgeist after the end of World War II leaned nationwide towards an "automobile-friendly city". As a result, plans for extensive redevelopment emerged in Hofheim in the 1960s, which would have resulted in the loss of a large part of the old building stock. Resistance against these plans arose among the population, which found its organizational form in the BHA from 1974 onwards.
The Bürgervereinigung successfully lobbied politically for the preservation and renovation of the Hofheim Old Town, networked with other old town associations across the region, and provided interested citizens of the Hofheim Old Town with advice and practical assistance. The exhibition showcases particularly successful renovation projects through historical photographs and contemporary images by Hofheim photographer Heiko Schmitt.
