Irish Youth Choir
Der Irish Youth Choir (IYC) ist Irlands nationaler Jugendchor. Unter der Leitung unseres
künstlerischen Direktors Bernie Sherlock bringt der IYC hervorragende Sängerinnen und
Sänger im Alter von 18 bis 28 Jahren aus der gesamten irischen Insel zusammen. Zu
unseren Ehemaligen gehören viele der führenden Dirigenten, Sänger, Lehrer und Musiker
Irlands. Die Sängerinnen und Sänger werden durch Vorsingen rekrutiert, wir treffen uns dann
mehrmals im Laufe des Jahres. Das Hauptereignis ist ein 10-tägiger intensiver Sommerkurs,
der in einer lebhaften, freundlichen und unterstützenden Atmosphäre an der Universität von
Limerick stattfindet. Der Kurs gipfelt in Aufführungen in ganz Irland.
Unter der Leitung von Bernie und einem engagierten künstlerischen Team bieten wir ein
vielseitiges, fortgeschrittenes Repertoire. Wir bekommen eine fachkundige stimmliche und
stilistische Entwicklung vermittelt. So gewinnen wir ein tiefes Verständnis für unsere
Kunstform und werden mit möglichen Wegen in verwandte Berufe vertraut gemacht. Die
enge Zusammenarbeit mit irischen Komponisten steht im Mittelpunkt des Ethos unseres
Chores.
Unser Chor gibt zahlreiche Konzerte in Irland, war auf Tournee in Kanada und trat bei den
BBC Proms auf. Im Mai 2023 durften wir an Europas führendem Jugendchor-Event, dem
Europäischen Festival der Jugendchöre in Basel, Schweiz, teilnehmen.
Der Irish Youth Choir - und der Irish Youth Training Choir - werden von Sing Ireland verwaltet.
Sing Ireland ist Irlands nationale Einrichtung zur Unterstützung und Förderung des
Gruppengesangs und wird vom Arts Council finanziert.
Bernie Sherlock ist eine führende Chordirigentin. Sie wurde 2020 zur künstlerischen Leiterin
des Irish Youth Choirs ernannt, gründete 2005 New Dublin Voices und war Co-Dirigentin des
EuroChoir 2021. Bernie hat internationale Dirigentenpreise in Finnland, Ungarn, Belgien,
Italien, Slowenien, Wales und Irland gewonnen. Ihre ständige Arbeit als internationale Jurorin
bei Chor- und Dirigierwettbewerben sowie als Leiterin von Chorworkshops hat sie durch ganz
Europa und in die USA, nach Kanada und China geführt.
Bernie ist Gründungsmitglied der „International Choral Conductors Federation“ und
Vertreterin Irlands im World Choir Council. Sie ist Dozentin für Musik am Konservatorium der
TU Dublin und leitete und unterrichtete 12 Jahre lang die jährliche „Sing Ireland International
Choral Conducting Summer School“.
The Irish Youth Choir (IYC) is Ireland´s national youth choir. Under the direction of our Artistic Director Bernie Sherlock, the IYC brings together outstanding singers aged between 18 to 28 from all over the island of Ireland. Among alumni include many of Ireland´s leading conductors, singers, teachers and musicians. Ireland. Singers are recruited by audition and we meet several times throughout the year. The main event is an intensive 10-day summer course, in a lively, friendly and supportive atmosphere at the University of Limerick. The course culminates in performances across Ireland.
Under the direction of Bernie and a dedicated artistic team, we offer a varied, advanced repertoire. We receive expert vocal and stylistic development. In this way we gain a deep understanding of our art form and become familiar with possible paths into related professions. The close collaboration with Irish composers is at the heart of our choir´s ethos.
Our choir gives numerous concerts in Ireland, has toured Canada and performed at the BBC Proms. In May 2023, we were invited to participate in Europe´s leading youth choir event, the European Festival of Youth Choirs in Basel, Switzerland.
The Irish Youth Choir - and the Irish Youth Training Choir - are managed by Sing Ireland. Sing Ireland is Ireland´s national body for the support and promotion of group group singing and is funded by the Arts Council.
Bernie Sherlock is a leading choral conductor. She was appointed Artistic Director of the Irish of the Irish Youth Choir in 2020, founded New Dublin Voices in 2005 and was co-conductor of EuroChoir 2021.
Bernie has won international conducting awards in Finland, Hungary, Belgium, Italy, Slovenia, Wales and Ireland, Italy, Slovenia, Wales and Ireland. Her ongoing work as an international adjudicator at choral and conducting competitions and as a conductor of choral workshops has taken her all over Europe and to the USA, Canada and China.
Bernie is a founding member of the "International Choral Conductors Federation" and Ireland´s representative on the World Choir Council. She is a lecturer in music at the Conservatoire of the TU Dublin and for 12 years conducted and taught at the annual Sing Ireland International Choral Conducting Summer School" for 12 years.
