The Little Singers of Tokyo
Unser Chor, die Little Singers of Tokyo (LSOT), wurde 1951 von Shinichi Hasegawa mit dem
Konzept der traditionellen europäischen Musik als Grundlage für die Musikerziehung
gegründet. In Zusammenarbeit mit Pater Paul Annuih brachte er uns die Werke der
Renaissance nahe. Dies führte 1955 zur Gründung des japanischen Zweigs der
Internationalen Vereinigung der Pueri Cantores. Der Gründungsgeist hält bis heute an, und
unser Repertoire umfasst ein breites Spektrum, von gregorianischen Gesängen bis zu
zeitgenössischen Werken, darunter auch Auftragswerke bekannter japanischer Komponisten
wie Matsudaira, Ichiyanagi und Hosokawa.
Unser Chor besteht aus vier Hauptgruppen: der Junior-Klasse im Alter von 6-14 Jahren, dem
Konzertchor im Alter von 15-19 Jahren, der den Kern der Aufführungen bildet, dem
Jugendchor, einem jungen gemischten Chor, und dem Kammerchor für Erwachsene, der eine
umfangreiche Konzerttätigkeit ermöglicht.
Seit der ersten Konzertreise nach Amerika im Jahr 1964, als der Chor eingeladen wurde, bei
der Eröffnung des Lincoln Center zu singen, hat unser Chor 33 Konzertreisen nach Übersee
unternommen und dabei 20 Länder und Regionen in Europa, Amerika, Asien und Ozeanien
besucht. 1997 wurde der Chor zum "Festival d´Automne à Paris" und im Jahr 2000 zu den
Internationalen Musikfestwochen Luzern eingeladen, um Werke von Toshio Hosokawa in
einem Porträtkonzert aufzuführen. Im Rahmen des Projekts zum 65-jährigen Bestehen der
LSOT (2015-16) fand die 33. Auslandsaufführung mit Auftritten in Rom, Mailand und anderen
Teilen Italiens statt, und das Ensemble wurde auch zum Macau International Music Festival
eingeladen.
Seit der Aufführung von "Otello" und "Carmen" mit dem Dirigenten A. Erede und M. Del
Monaco im Jahr 1959 haben wir mit berühmten Künstler:innen, Opernhäusern und
Orchestern auf der ganzen Welt zusammengearbeitet. Wir hatten die Ehre, mit den Berliner
Philharmonikern, dem Teatro alla Scala, der Wiener Staatsoper, dem Bolshoi Theater, dem
Marinsky Theater und den Philharmonikern aus St. Petersburg aufzutreten, um nur einige zu
nennen, und sangen unter der Leitung von über 30 bedeutenden Dirigenten wie D. Willcocks,
E. Svetlanov, C. Kleiber, N. Santi, S. Ozawa, P. Herreweghe und V. Gergiev. Die Aufführungen
von Mahlers 3. Symphonie mit den Berliner Philharmonikern unter der Leitung von C. Abbado
und Verdis "Otello" am Teatro alla Scala unter der Leitung von R. Muti wurden beide sehr
positiv aufgenommen.
Anlässlich seines 70-jährigen Jubiläums im Jahr 2021 veranstaltete unser Chor die "70th
Anniversary Concert Series 2021-23" mit vier aufeinanderfolgenden Aufführungen. Die letzte
Aufführung mit der Weltpremiere eines neuen Werks des weltberühmten Komponisten
Toshio Hosokawa in der Suntory Hall in Tokio stellte den Höhepunkt der letzten siebzig Jahre
unseres Chors dar.
Our choir, the Little Singers of Tokyo (LSOT), was founded in 1951 by Shinichi Hasegawa with the concept of traditional European music as the basis for music education. In collaboration with Father Paul Annuih, he introduced us to the works of the Renaissance. This led to the founding of the Japanese branch of the International Association of Pueri Cantores. The founding spirit continues to this day, and our repertoire covers a broad spectrum, from Gregorian chants to contemporary works, including commissioned works by well-known Japanese composers such as Matsudaira, Ichiyanagi and Hosokawa.
Our choir consists of four main groups: the junior class aged 6-14, the concert choir aged 15-19, which forms the core of the performances, the youth choir, a young mixed choir, and the chamber choir for adults, which enables which enables extensive concert activities.
Since the first concert tour to America in 1964, when the choir was invited to sing at the opening of Lincoln Center, our choir has undertaken 33 overseas concert tours overseas, visiting 20 countries and regions in Europe, America, Asia and Oceania. In 1997, the choir was invited to the "Festival d´Automne à Paris" and in 2000 to the Lucerne International Music Festival to perform works by Toshio Hosokawa in a portrait concert. As part of the project celebrating the 65th anniversary of the LSOT (2015-16), the 33rd performance abroad took place with performances in Rome, Milan and other Italy, and the ensemble was also invited to the Macau International Music Festival.
Since the performance of "Otello" and "Carmen" with the conductor A. Erede and M. Del Monaco in 1959, we have worked with famous artists, opera houses and orchestras around the world. We have had the honor of working with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Teatro alla Scala, the Vienna State Opera, the Bolshoi Theater, the Marinsky Marinsky Theater and the Philharmonic Orchestra of St. Petersburg, to name but a few and sang under the baton of over 30 important conductors such as D. Willcocks, E. Svetlanov, C. Kleiber, N. Santi, S. Ozawa, P. Herreweghe and V. Gergiev. The performances Mahler´s 3rd Symphony with the Berlin Philharmonic under the direction of C. Abbado and Verdi´s "Otello" at the Teatro alla Scala under the direction of R. Muti were both very positively received.
On the occasion of its 70th anniversary in 2021, our choir organized the "70th Anniversary Concert Series 2021-23" with four consecutive performances. The last performance with the world premiere of a new work by the world-famous composer Toshio Hosokawa at the Suntory Hall in Tokyo was the highlight of the last seventy years of our choir.
