One Night of Dire Straits - Tribute Show - ´30 years later´ Tour
The Dire Straits were a band of superlatives. With Mark Knopfler's distinctive guitar playing and deep voice immediately recognizable, they rose from small bar concerts to the biggest stages on the planet in just under a decade. As a counterpoint to the then-popular punk rock, the perennially cash-strapped ("Dire Straits") musicians with their many musical influences only had a brief niche existence until they rapidly became one of the most well-known and successful bands in music history, selling over 120 million records in their career.
With "Sultans of Swing" they achieved breakthrough success at the end of the 70s, putting Mark Knopfler in the spotlight as a singer, composer, and especially as a guitarist. The group reached their zenith in the mid-eighties with the song "Money For Nothing", a collaboration with their fellow "Geordie" countryman Sting.
However, success and great pressure demanded too high a price from the musicians involved. After the success of the final album "On Every Street" (38x platinum worldwide) and the eponymous world tour from 1991-1992 with a total of 229 concerts, Mark Knopfler announced in 1995 that the band would henceforth be inactive and would no longer perform public concerts. This final phase is now the focus of the tribute show "One Night of Dire Straits".
Guitarist and singer Alex Moll, along with his exquisitely assembled band of live and studio musicians, takes the audience on a journey full of fascinating and handmade music. Moll studied Knopfler's music and guitar playing since his youth and gathers in his band only companions who have the Dire Straits just as much in their blood as he does. Moll not only succeeds in eliciting the same sounds from his guitar for which Mark Knopfler became world-famous, but also in raising the energy and joy of playing of the nine-member band to the level of the original.
With a song selection that leaves nothing to be desired, "One Night of Dire Straits" guarantees an outstanding concert evening for all fans of Mark Knopfler, Dire Straits, and handmade music that immediately captivates the ear.
