'The NeverEnding Story' was published in 1979, ranked on the bestseller lists for almost sixty weeks, and continues to delight readers of all ages around the world today.
Bastian Balthasar Bux is constantly teased by his classmates and often escapes into the world of books. One day, when he has to hide from his tormentors on the way to school, he accidentally ends up in an old bookstore. There, Bastian comes across a book that has an almost magical attraction to him: it is 'The NeverEnding Story'. Unable to resist, he impulsively steals the book, hides in the attic of his school, and begins to read.
The book tells of the land of Fantastica, which is in great danger. Larger and larger parts of the land are being swallowed by the Nothing, and its ruler, the Childlike Empress, suffers from a mysterious illness that no doctor can cure. All hope lies with the young Atreyu, who is sent through the crumbling Fantastica to find a human child who can give the Childlike Empress a new name: for only that can save her and Fantastica now...
Bastian breathlessly follows Atreyu's incredible adventures. His desire to help the inhabitants of this wonderful land grows stronger until the book finally seems to start telling Bastian's own story... Could he, Bastian Balthasar Bux, actually be the human child they are looking for?
Moritz Seibert directs the story for audiences aged 8 and up.
