Alone with a bicycle and child to the North Cape: About breathtaking nature experiences, boundary experiences and growing beyond oneself
Courage does not mean never feeling fear. Courage is when you don’t let your fears keep you from your dreams. Jasmin Böhm has shown that she can do this time and again over the past years: since 2021, the single mother has been regularly on shorter and longer adventure trips with her now six-year-old son, despite worries about the future. Their last bike trip not only took them to the North Cape, but also confronted the author with her fears between rough solitude and the forces of nature – and rewarded her with unforgettable experiences and encounters, along with plenty of time spent with her son.
In "Hallo Angst, ich mach’s jetzt doch!" (from May 1, 2025, in Kailash Verlag), she tells how she overcomes fears in harmony with nature during her trip to the far north, unfolds a deep strength, and finds herself. A book that encourages taking life as an adventure and using challenges as a chance for personal growth and a fulfilling life.
Jasmin and Emil have now become an experienced travel duo. While Emil was still in the child seat during the first bike tour, he now happily pedals along and proudly bikes long distances all by himself. He thrives in nature: wild camping, whale birthdays, meeting new friends, and magical northern lights are one big adventure for him. On the other hand, Jasmin faces fears in the solitude of the north and the harsh nature and reaches both physical and mental limits. She regularly grapples with the question: Is what I'm doing reckless? Am I endangering my child? Or are these just old fears catching up with me? Weighing which fears are sensible advisors to heed because they protect us, and which worries actually come from other origins and only make life unnecessarily hard, is not always easy. Yet, as the journey progresses, she comes closer not only to the North Cape but to herself as well.
Jasmin Böhm has already proven that she can overcome difficult challenges: she moved into a hospice with her terminally ill mother while still a student to accompany her on her final journey, freed herself from a relationship with domestic violence while pregnant, and left her three jobs to spend more quality time with her child when she found herself trapped in a daily routine that was not good for either of them. In her SPIEGEL bestseller "Hallo Glück, dich gibt’s ja doch!" she movingly and empoweringly shared her life story, her journey to Spain, and the practical challenges of traveling with a toddler and a bicycle. In her new book "Hallo Angst, ich mach’s jetzt doch!", she once again takes us on a journey, this time into the breathtaking nature of the wild north, reflecting on how she wants to live in the long term, how contact with other cultures shapes people, what motherhood and responsibility mean, and how personal growth and need-oriented education can also succeed while traveling.
