Classical. Romantic. Virtuosic!
The magnificent highlights of romantic piano literature in one evening
Beethoven & Liszt
As Artists in Residence of the 9th Piano Festival in Ottobrunn from December 13th to 15th, 2024, the internationally acclaimed pianists Yaara Tal & Andreas Groethuysen will present a wide range of their piano work in three concerts, from solo to duo to a concert for children and families. On the first concert evening, Andreas Groethuysen will compare Beethoven's last Sonata in C minor with Franz Liszt's great Sonata in B minor in his solo recital. Beethoven's Sonata is considered "his legacy to the world," as Andreas Groethuysen puts it. The Piano Sonata in B minor by Franz Liszt dedicated to Robert Schumann is also considered a highlight in Franz Liszt's work, which like Beethoven's composition has pushed the boundaries of this genre. This evening promises to be the pinnacle of expressiveness and pianistic excellence.
Andreas Groethuysen, born in Munich, studied piano primarily under Ludwig Hoffmann in Munich and was supported by the "Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes" under Peter Feuchtwanger in London. After several years of mainly solo concert performances and solo recordings, Groethuysen joined forces with Yaara Tal to form a piano duo, which has since become the focus of his artistic activities and is actively involved in the international concert scene with performances in most European countries, Asia, North and South America. In close collaboration with the label SONY CLASSICAL, the duo has released an unprecedented series of 40 CDs, which have received great acclaim internationally from audiences and critics, winning numerous awards (including eleven times the "Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik", five times the "Echo Prize", most recently the "Opus Klassik 2021" and the "Cannes Classical Award"), and have enriched the market with several first recordings. Key highlights of their releases certainly include recordings of the complete works of Franz Schubert and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Andreas Groethuysen heads a class for solo piano and piano duo at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and has also been a member or chairman of juries in international piano competitions on several occasions.
