How do young people today deal with the shocking experiences, behavior, and actions of their ancestors? How do they confront this heritage?

Siblings Camille and Lucas are tasked with clearing out the attic of their parents' house in Alsace. Lacking motivation, they begin working, but when they discover documents and testimonies of their German-French family history from the last century in the dusty boxes, their curiosity is piqued. Particularly about the generation of their great-grandparents, surprising things come to light that can only be pieced together with some detective skills. Lucas, who studies history, can contribute some knowledge to categorize the finds and at least partially reconstruct the life stories. Gradually, the siblings uncover well-hidden family secrets. Their mother is also forced to confront the fractures in her family history. Not only are the German-French relations during World War II illuminated, but also exemplary fates of people who found their last peace in Niederbronn-les-Bains...

A charming Japanese-Polish jazz duo with vocals and guitar.

What do the video game "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" and Joni Mitchell's album "Hejira" have in common? Well: They take an essentially established genre, merge it equally with new influences, and create a timeless work of art. Equally is the key word here: On their new album "Ekual," Yumi Ito & Szymon Mika create such a phenomenon. With the diversity of voice and string instruments, the Polish-Japanese-Swiss vocal-guitar duo crafts worlds of harmonics, chords, vocal melodies, and vocal improvisations. No element pushes itself to the forefront. Instead, Yumi Ito & Szymon Mika perform on an equal level, like siblings in spirit, on themes that range from sex to the Swiss and Polish women's strikes to politics.

That "Ekual" at times sounds like an equal fusion of the initially mentioned references is yet another bonus considering the diverse music. Yumi Ito & Szymon Mika are a Polish-Japanese-Swiss duo comprised of vocals and guitar, artfully combining elements of jazz and pop, and have already performed across Europe (including the Montreux Jazz Festival, Summer Jazz Festival Krakow). The two award-winning musicians met in Switzerland and collaborated with greats such as Dave Holland, Avishai Cohen, and Steve Swallow. The latter even suggested, when listening to one of their jams, that they should definitely form a duo. "Ekual" now forms the first album in this constellation and a step for the equally great-acting musical siblings in spirit, Yumi Ito & Szymon Mika.

This story has been adapted into film multiple times, but has hardly been seen as a play on the theater stage until now. It is therefore high time!

"The human is not created to be happy"
What a title! Little more is possible in world literature. Alexandre Dumas's story of the sailor Edmond Dantès, who later becomes the Count of Monte Christo and the angel of vengeance for his own cause, was published as a serialized novel in the magazine "Le Journal des débats" between 1844 and 1846, and continues to achieve unprecedented success worldwide today. Even the name of one of the most famous Cuban cigar brands traces back to Dumas’s literary masterpiece: Tobacco leaves were read aloud to the rolling workers during their work, and "The Count of Monte Christo" was one of the most popular stories. It probably also had to do with the fact that an individual frees himself from his personal hell in post-Napoleonic France of the 1830s and takes up arms against the sky-high injustices inflicted upon him. The mysterious, worldly, seemingly endlessly rich Count of Monte Christo, returning to France, encounters a hypocritically-libidinous, self-enriching upper class, whom he seduces with brilliant-malevolent intelligence, deceives, and ultimately drives into the abyss.

While this story has been adapted into film many times and already turned into a large musical, it has hardly been seen as a play on the theater stage. Certainly not as a guest performance on a theater tour. It is therefore high time!
Dumas addresses significant themes in his novel that concern us today just as they did then: repression and arbitrariness, criticism of the surplus society, and the mechanisms of collective repression. Especially now, in a time of great uncertainty, we bring to the stage a story that tells of absolute determination, strength of will, loneliness, ethos, and great love. And those who know our theater work understand that this is done with imagination and the diverse, associative means of theater.
A great challenge that we face with the utmost enthusiasm for theater.

Hamburg, late 1940s. Three women want to fulfill their dream: a concert before the Queen in the garden of Buckingham Palace. But for that, they must win a singing competition. And that can only succeed if Fräulein Wunder participates! During an audition, they meet: Rosa, a substitute German teacher, Käthe, a seamstress with operatic training, and Hilde, a milkmaid and yodeler, the purest natural talent. A women's band is to be established, more precisely: a ladies' band, as Captain John McGintley, the organizer of the "Anglo-German-Swing Festival," emphasizes. A big challenge - not only for the three very different "German Frolleins." With a wink, exceedingly humorous yet equally melancholic and touching, enriched with numerous songs from the 30s and 40s, Murat Yeginer succeeds in telling a story that draws us in.
It is enriched with many big hits from the Swing era, such as "Bei mir bistu scheyn," "It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)," "Cheek to Cheek," or "Sing, sing, sing."

Beethoven and Zehetmair seem to be kindred spirits: two driven individuals searching for the ultimate things in music. The fact that Zehetmair is also engaging intensively with the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto after a long time promises musical delight and the chance for a rediscovery of a famous masterpiece.
The Stuttgarter Kammerorchester (SKO) was founded in 1945 and is one of the oldest chamber orchestras in the world. Thomas Zehetmair has been standing on the podium of international orchestras for over twenty years. Since the 2017/2020 season, he has been the chief conductor of the SKO and since September 2023 the principal conductor of the Orchestre National d'Auvergne. The Austrian is also a violinist and is intensively engaged not only with works of the classical-romantic violin repertoire but also with compositions of contemporary music.

Exceptionally talented vocalist, guitarist, and genre-bender Teresa Bergmann returns with her third studio album.

"33, Single & Broke" - a title that is a statement, a self-confession, and a wink at the same time. Essentially, it's everything that the native New Zealander and adopted Berliner stands for with her music. The result is a tension-filled album that can be celebrated as a jazzy folk-pop inferno, which demands a bit from us as poetic discourse-pop, and shines with Bergman’s characteristic contemporary chanson. One can look forward to songs that invite dancing at times and allow for nostalgia at others. Teresa completely challenges her voice for her audience - it is no surprise that live performances by Bergman are always described in the press as truly experiential.
Alongside her are three excellent musicians on stage: bassist Tobias Kabiersch, drummer Pier Ciaccio, and pianist Matt Paull. Added to this is songwriting that sets impulses and encourages reflection. One thing is certain: anyone who sees Teresa Bergman live will leave the concert hall surprised, enchanted, thoughtful, and thrilled.

The Freiburg Student Orchestra presents Mahler's Symphony No. 9, a highlight of his symphonic oeuvre and of classical music as a whole.

On Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 8 PM, the Freiburg Student Orchestra, under the direction of Gunnar Persicke, invites you to a special concert at the Parktheater Lahr. The performance features Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 9, the last completed work of the composer, which is commonly understood as his farewell to the world and is considered one of the most moving and profound symphonies in music history. The work oscillates in its tonal language between tradition and modernity, between cozy ländler and terrifying sonic power, between abyss and transcendence. A concert you shouldn't miss - full of intensity, passion, and musical brilliance.

The FSO stands out among the variety of Freiburg's symphony orchestras due to its high musical level, its progressive programs, its highly professional rehearsal support, and its friendly and warm atmosphere, making it the first point of contact for music-loving and talented students from all faculties of the University of Freiburg. At the end of each semester, the orchestra performs at the concert hall, the largest and most beautiful concert venue in Freiburg. For the first time, the orchestra will now make a guest appearance in Lahr.

An evening that uniquely combines social criticism, humor, and high culture - and that, despite the fact that Fee Brembeck is a woman.

How does one get off a train? How does breakfast work? How do you do that thing I've been doing professionally for years? And how do you actually use a telephone?
You think you know the answers to all these questions - then you are probably a man!
As a woman or a person read as female, one often has to have these things explained in everyday life, often unsolicited.
Fee Brembeck is not only an author, slam poet, and opera singer, but also an expert at having her expertise questioned. This is what the program of the Ernst-Hoferichter Prize winner is about, as well as top models, opera divas, and poetry in the disco.
With a lot of humor, a pinch of self-irony, and plenty of depth, the artistic wonder bag of cabaret leads through her second program and turns the tables in an entertaining way: Now she explains the world to the audience unsolicited!

Fee Brembeck is an artistic wonder bag: she is a cabaret artist, author, aspiring opera singer, and one of the most well-known poetry slam performers in the German-speaking world. In 2013, she became the German-speaking U20 champion in poetry slam, in 2016 she received the Tassilo Culture Prize from the Süddeutsche Zeitung, and in 2022 she was awarded the Ernst-Hoferichter Prize. The young Berlin local has published a youth book with Friedrich Oetinger Verlag, is represented in numerous anthologies, and tours the German-speaking region as well as other European countries with her "feeminist" texts. In 2019, her first collection of texts "Feeminismus" was published. Since autumn 2021, her first feminist non-fiction book "Now just shut up, man! Why we are fed up with mansplaining" has been available from Goldmann Verlag.
Her parodic humor and her linguistically adept, deeply impactful poetry are also showcased by "the Helene Fischer of Poetry Slam" as a regular member of the cabaret and reading show "Die Stützen der Gesellschaft." From time to time, she can be admired on television - for example in comedy mixed shows like Nightwash, the NDR Comedy Contest, the Vereinsheim Schwabing, or in the WDR Ladies Night. She is also part of the Sisters of Comedy and was involved in the development of a new female comedy format for ARD One, in which she also appeared on camera.
Fee studied German studies, Protestant theology, education, and opera singing and otherwise can never get enough. She lives and works in Leipzig, Berlin, and on the trains of Deutsche Bahn. After her first solo program "If Smart Were the New Beautiful" and her debut at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, she is now dedicating herself to her second program "Erklär´s mir, als wäre ich eine Frau!" and spends the rest of her time being happy.

Hard times for men - especially when they are young, attractive, and looking for a job. In a society for alpha females and sick brothers, which eliminates the word "man" and where "woman" holds the power, Florian becomes an exemplary object of desire and discrimination - in both professional and private life.

His supervisor unsolicitedly calls him "Flo" and he, as a newcomer, experiences the absurdity of a power imbalance that we have long become accustomed to: As a rookie in a real estate office, he is faced with the boundarylessness of his boss. As an intern in a drugstore, he has to deal with his intrusive store manager, and as a novice actor, he is cast as a passionate sex bunny.
At home, the household awaits him, which his wife, as the breadwinner, can no longer manage and who also desperately desires a child.

By reversing the real power dynamics, "Status Quo" makes the mechanisms of inequality visible in a satire that is both sharp-tongued and humorous. Through pointed dialogues and insightful scenes, Maja Zade's social analysis transforms into a keen comedy.

Inspiring from Johanna Spyri's classic - one of the most popular children's books in Turkey - Katja Hensel humorously shows what home can be.

Kemal is supposed to bring something to school that means "home" to him. He is completely at a loss. His father suggests a soccer jersey, while his grandmother suggests her old favorite children's book "Heidi." Suddenly, Ella, the new girl from the 10th floor, appears in his room. Since she constantly moves around with her mother, home is also intangible for her.

Together, Ella and Kemal decide to invent their own sense of home. They climb to the top of their high-rise building and become peak climbers with grandma's children's book, which they cannot read but reinterpret playfully. A fantastical journey between the green meadows and the gray stairwell begins. Until Ella's mother announces that they will be moving again. Out of anger, Kemal tears "Heidi" into the air.

The composer, artist, music producer, and instrument maker Konrad Sprenger, born and raised in Lahr, comes from Berlin to his old home.

Konrad Sprenger
Konrad Sprenger is the pseudonym of the Berlin-based composer, artist, music producer, and instrument maker Joerg Hiller.
In his own work and in numerous collaborative projects, Hiller works at the intersection of performance, installation, composition, and research.
Through the seamless merging of physically modeled synthesis with the sounds of his own acoustic innovations as an instrument maker, Hiller's work is characterized by a gradually unfolding structuring of precisely controlled harmonic and rhythmic structures.
His recent works include multichannel live performances revolving around a computer-controlled electric guitar that is continuously tuned and excited by electronically driven mechanisms.
Since 2017, Hiller and his collaborator Philip Sollman have been developing and presenting the Modular Organ System, a large-scale sound installation that integrates both conventional organ pipes and extended pipes and horns of their own design. After several site-specific implementations, the duo released their first archival recording of the project in 2023 on Hiller's own label Choose Records.
Other long-term collaborations include work with Arnold Dreyblatt, Ellen Fullman, Oren Ambarchi, Rom, Ei, Ethnostress, and the artist collective Honey-Suckle Company. As a producer and sound engineer, Hiller has also worked on solo recordings for Ambarchi, Dreyblatt, and Fullman.

Hiller's works have been presented in exhibitions and performances at Moma PS1, Artist Space, and Gavin Brown's Enterprise in New York, at KW, Hamburger Bahnhof, Berghain, and Sprüth Magers in Berlin, at Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, Frankfurt Art Association, Kunsthalle Basel, at Sonar and Primavera in Barcelona, at ina GRM in Paris, as well as at the Vienna Festival and ICA London.

Choose Records was founded by Hiller in 2001 and has since released works by Terry Fox, Walter Marchetti, Robert Ashley, Ellen Fullman, Robin Hayward, and by Hiller himself (as Konrad Sprenger), as well as many others.

Marcus Pal
Marcus Pal (*1991) is a sound artist, composer, and theorist who works with harmonic sound. Pal's work focuses on the phenomenology of intensity, clarity, and possibility as they manifest in the perception of tones, chords, harmony, and other forms of harmonics. Pal extensively works with just intonation and composes for both acoustic instruments and digital sound synthesis. In 2013 and 2014, Pal studied with La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela while living in the Church Street Dream House in New York. Between 2014 and 2024, Pal worked closely with Catherine Christer Hennix.
