Anton Bruckner was deeply connected to the male singing clubs that were so typical in the 19th century from a young age. Already in the 1840s, he founded male quartets in Kronstorf and St. Florian, in which he sang as second and first bass. His contemporaries Bedřich Smetana and Peter Cornelius, who form the trio of the 200-year-olds with him, also wrote numerous works for unaccompanied male choir, including fatherland, festival, nature, hunting, mourning, and love songs.
To provide a comprehensive overview of this fascinating yet largely forgotten repertoire, two high-profile male choirs have joined forces: the renowned Chorus Viennensis, consisting of former Vienna Boys' Choir members, and the Ensemble Sonat Vox, whose members sang in their childhood in the Windsbacher Knabenchor.
Together and alternately, they let the music of the three jubilee composers resonate in German and Czech texts, thus presenting a program that is as unusual as it is unforgettable.
The concerts will take place on the following dates: on September 28, 2024, in Wildpoldsried in the "KULTIVIERT" festival hall at 5 PM, on September 29, 2024, in Ansbach in the Karlshalle at 3 PM, and on October 5, 2024, in Linz at the Brucknerhaus at 7:30 PM.
