For the Windsbacher Boys' Choir and Spark, the musical settings of his winter and Christmas poems are a source of inspiration for an exciting musical partnership. In their festive Christmas program, the clear sound of the boys' choir meets the virtuosity of the classical band. Here, tradition and modernity come together. Here, songs become tunes. The two sound bodies link well-known settings of winter and Christmas poems by Paul Gerhardt with popular Christmas tunes from the 17th century, thus creating a vibrant musical image of that time, but above all, a contemplatively intoxicating kaleidoscope of Christmas sounds. Spark thinks classical music anew. The quintet places Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart & Co in a fresh context and creates connections with the sounds and the feeling of the present moment. At its core classical, outwardly unconventional, curious, and nonconformist, the group pitches its idea tent in an open field between classical music, minimal music, and avant-garde. Styles are joyfully and casually mixed, and the numerous sound variations explored that its rich instrumentation of over 40 different recorders, violin, viola, cello, melodica, and piano has to offer.
