Symphony No. 4 in F Minor Op. 36
A summer evening, an orchestra, great works: No summer without music!
When the Lake Constance Chamber Orchestra performs in August 2026, classical music becomes a shared experience. Under the direction of Gero Wittich, the ensemble is preparing in Gaienhofen for its concerts in Friedrichshafen and Beuren at the Aach – with openness, precision, and audible joy of playing. What began in 2002 as a circle of friends is now a powerful symphony orchestra: The BKO unites professional musicians from renowned ensembles such as the German Radio Philharmonic, the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe, or the Nationaltheater-Orchester Mannheim with music students and highly committed amateur musicians. Different life paths, a common aspiration: music at the highest level – lively, intense, and authentic.
The program features two works that tell stories of inner tension and musical dialogue in very different ways. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s 4th Symphony is one of his most personal works. It is marked by thoughts of inevitable fate and his recently entered, very unhappy marriage. Between dramatic force and lyrical intimacy, a symphony full of contrasts unfolds, demanding the orchestra to showcase all its colors and offering the audience an immediate, emotional access. A chamber music counterpart is formed by Max Bruch's Concerto for Clarinet, Viola, and Orchestra. Two instruments that often stay in the background are here equally central. Clarinet and viola lead the way through the three movements, alternating between parallel vocal lines and dialogical interplay, accompanied by the orchestra. The soloists are Benjamin Rivinius, principal violist of the German Radio Philharmonic and long-standing member of the BKO, and Lyuta Kobayashi, prize-winner of the German Music Competition 2022 and solo clarinetist of the German Radio Philharmonic – two outstanding musical personalities of the present.
This concert thus unites symphonic grandeur and intimate dialogue – reflecting the essence of the Lake Constance Chamber Orchestra: making music together out of curiosity, dedication, and genuine enthusiasm for music. Or, as the Südkurier aptly puts it: “Inspiring music that gets under your skin.”
