Alexander Huber - Zeit zum Atmen
Time to Breathe: Multi-vision show with Alexander Huber
Alexander Huber moves in the border areas of the vertical world, on the eleventh grade of alpine walls as well as on the great mountains of the world. The extreme climber paints a vivid picture of modern alpinism, showcasing extreme rock climbing in the Alps, on Sardinia, and in the cold, thin air of the high peaks of the wild mountains of Pakistan. The incredible images, arranged with fascinating film sequences and music, offer a unique experience.
When in the late 1980s alpinism seemed to have no future because every peak appeared to have been climbed, the new creative climbing generation proved otherwise. For the Huber brothers, alpinism is about the journey being the goal. This journey leads over ridges and difficult walls and is meant to be mastered sometimes extremely quickly and sometimes under extreme conditions. Climbing at the eleventh grade - this is a sport with high physical and psychological demands. The most challenging climbing sections of such routes require an acute sense of the right movement on the rock and immense strength potential. Alexander takes the audience on a journey to a 2500-meter high rock pillar in the Karakoram and shows them spectacular images at the largest overhang in Europe on Sardinia. Additionally, a climb of the East Face of Watzmann with his father and a special music project at Heidenpfeiler in the Palatinate – all this presents a colorful picture of the mountains.
The younger of the two Huber brothers brings the steep mountain world into a new light. He shares his most beautiful and also most formative moments, which emerge from a combination of creativity and discipline, of shared goals and conscious solo ventures. The passion for mountains stands as a metaphor for life and allows room for reflections from impressively visually powerful perspectives: Time to Breathe - for it is not the mountain that one conquers, but always only oneself!
About the person:
Alexander Huber belongs to the best mountaineers and climbers of our time. His first successes came as a mountain guide and physicist in sport climbing. Huber became particularly well-known for his free solo climbs. He established the world's first sport climbing route in the upper eleventh grade. The route "Pan Aroma" as a highlight in alpine rock, the free climbing routes on the big walls of Yosemite, the first ascent of the west face of Latok II, and the free solo ascent of the Direttissima on the Große Zinne are the cornerstones of his mountaineering career. Together with his brother Thomas, he forms the renowned climbing duo "Huberbuam." In late 2008, they succeeded in climbing Ulvetanna, the most difficult mountain in Antarctica, and leaving behind the most challenging route on the frozen continent with the first ascent of the west face of Holtanna. He became particularly well-known with his brother after the release of the film "Am Limit," which shows both of them during the speed ascent of The Nose on El Capitan. This film won the Bavarian Film Award and the German Camera Award.
In December 2024, Alexander Huber opened a new route with "Mythos," graded 8c+, in his hometown of Berchtesgaden. In July 2025, he achieved the ascent of a new route through the east face of Jirishanca, 6094 meters high and one of the most striking and steepest walls in the Andes, along with top climbers Dani Arnold and Simon Gietl. Alexander Huber operates a farm with his family in Scheffau near Berchtesgaden.
