"Im weissen Rössl on Wolfgangsee, there happiness stands at the door ...".
Who doesn't know it, the hit from one of the most popular classics of the entertainment world.
For those who actually don't know the piece: what's it about?
The waiter Leopold is trying to win the favor of the Rössl innkeeper Josepha. But she has her eye on a regular guest, the lawyer Dr. Siedler. However, he is more interested in Ottilie, who has traveled from Berlin with her father Wilhelm Giesecke, a manufacturer of knitted goods. In the meantime, Sigismund, the son of Giesecke's competitor, arrives. He is supposed to mediate peace between the companies. Giesecke hopes to promote this endeavor with a union of his daughter Ottilie and Sigismund. Dr. Siedler promises to get involved in this case but has no intention of letting Ottilie belong to another. Sigismund, on the other hand, prefers to pursue his travel acquaintance Klärchen, the daughter of the impoverished Professor Hinzelmann. Now everything needs to be arranged.
But what will become of Leopold's dream of happiness? Let's wait and see. Because: In the Salzkammergut, one can be good and merry. And besides: what can Sigismund do about being so handsome?
