Quadro Nuevo
The youth friends Mulo Francel and Didi Lowka founded the ensemble Quadro Nuevo in 1996. Since then, the adventurous artists have traveled to countless places from Helsinki to Hong Kong, from the Caucasus to New York's Carnegie Hall. Through their audacious way of making music, they have won the ECHO twice, a Gold Record, the German Record Critics' Award, and several Jazz Awards.
With the extravagant and playful accordionist Andreas Hinterseher and the New York musician Tim Collins, who shines with abundant creativity on the vibraphone, they live their music in the here and now.
This reminds one of four guys who joyfully played music as they roamed the southern city squares and fairs. This was the case in the early days of Quadro Nuevo.
Later, they spent time in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, rehearsing for days in the shimmering midday heat, going out in the evenings, diving headfirst into the scene, accompanying dancers, indulging in rich wine, Caipirinha, and fresh Brazilian Music straight from the source.
The new album HAPPY Deluxe emerged from this.
From here, the virtuosos set off into improvisational new territory, sometimes soaring high in buzzing heights, sometimes diving into Mediterranean sparkling seas, sometimes chillingly woven in daydreams and night revelries.
Quadro Nuevo explains this sonic homage to moments of happiness:
“Our music has always arisen from experiences and encounters. The joy and friendliness of many people in Brazil fascinated us. It colored our songs.
Thus, the title of the album was created. We are very aware that the everyday world of many people is anything but carefree. Nevertheless – or precisely because of that – even in times of crises and wars, music should offer a positive counter-world.”
