What we know: between 1980 and 1982, four albums of theirs were released in quick succession that changed music history worldwide. And DAF's international reputation is certainly not based on their name, as Gabi Delgado-López and Robert Görl were never after friendship – always hard the faces, penetrating the gazes, and arriving with a precisely staged coldness, despite the fact that so much heat actually resides within them.
In the orbit of the Ratinger Hof in Düsseldorf, DAF initially formed as a quintet among Fehlfarben, Der Plan, Mittagspause, and others, but then followed a conceptual approach that allowed no other young gods besides Delgado-López and Görl. From then on, they operated as a duo. With precise, jazz-trained drumming, the legendary Korg MS-20, and a fetish-laden militarism in spoken song form, they crafted four albums in a short time that can certainly be understood as a substitute for sex, drugs, and violence.
