Rebekka Bakken - Winter Nights
Rebekka Bakken
Winter Nights 2026
Solo live: an intimate evening with Norway’s phenomenal voice!
When Rebekka Bakken sings, it quickly becomes clear that you are listening to one of the most impressive voices in Scandinavia. This woman is simply a singing sensation! Far removed from all genre boundaries, this singer/songwriter has outgrown all categories and allows stylistic influences from every corner, whether it be the folklore of her homeland or Country & Western from the distant USA. She pays homage to Tom Waits and Ludwig Hirsch with cover versions. Many of her compositions carry her own biography within them, and together with her announcements, they create a portrait of a highly emotional woman who is capable of pouring all the facets of her soul into the audience through the highest artistry in singing.
Rebekka Bakken knows how to showcase her compositions perfectly; her voice – what an instrument – possesses enormous power and depth. One gets the impression there is nothing this woman cannot sing. Her songs tell of love, longing, separation, but oh, how they do! Not sugary platitudes are spread here, but authentic – often “naked” – life experiences. At times, her voice is gentle, loving, and at other times, cheeky, attacking, shrill, loud. Rebekka Bakken writes and sings from the depths of her soul, instinctively and openly, hitting directly into our emotional world, making us feel immediately addressed. A strong woman in the best singer/songwriter tradition acts here. It’s no wonder that the press is also overflowing with praise: FAZ “A siren. Whoever hears her is lost. Erotically stimulating down to the tips of their hair,” Prinz “The most sensual thing female jazz has to offer,” WELT “The beautiful witch from the north,” Süddeutsche Zeitung “A voice that leaves you speechless.”
On her album “Always On My Mind” (release date 28.04.23, Sony), Norwegian singer and songwriter Rebekka Bakken translates her favorite songs into her unmistakable sound cosmos between atmospheric Scandinavian pop and jazz. Together with her band, she brings classics like “Yesterday” by Lennon/McCartney, “Here Comes The Flood” by Peter Gabriel, or “Why” by Annie Lennox into a completely new sound, just like “Break My Heart Again” by Finneas O`Connell, who stands for a new generation of songwriters. “These songs have ‘always been on my mind’ and inspired my own songwriting. They are the ‘soundtrack of my life’ and some of them have stuck with me since my childhood. I have developed my own voice listening to some of these songs and it is just the right moment to reinterpret them my way,” explains Rebekka Bakken. “Always On My Mind” features a total of 15 colorful tracks, including those from Elton John, Bob Dylan, Randy Newman, and Nick Cave.
Rebekka Bakken has created music as enchanting as the winter landscape of Norway. She translates the archetypal calm of deep blue fjords, the meditative solitude of snowy spruce forests, and the dreamlike sublime glow of the Northern Lights into her own songs and selected cover songs, resulting in a winter - Christmas evening full of deep emotions. With the typical Rebekka Bakken sound, navigating between Norwegian picturesque singer-songwriter elements and modern European jazz, she designs a concert program that unfolds its power from reduction. Bakken places her voice front and center, with sophisticated and understated arrangements solo on the piano, creating an intimate sound bed for a concert full of deeply felt emotions.
