Lesung und Gespräch | Martin Zinggl | Das ist kein Spaziergang
To find a way out of the crisis, Martin Zinggl sets out into the unknown: on foot along the Sultans Trails. Vienna-Istanbul, eight countries, 2,400 kilometers, countless borders, visible and invisible. With time and curiosity in his luggage, he experiences new stories on old paths. The Balkans welcome him with hospitality and mistrust. Villagers host him, street dogs chase him, refugees in the woods warn him: wrong direction, friend! Every day is a struggle: against nature, his legs, his thoughts. Every border is a test, every encounter a lesson. And eventually, between pain and insights, he is further than he ever thought. With pace and depth, Zinggl narrates about walking, wonder, and the foreign.
Martin Zinggl, born in 1983, ethnologist, reporter, photographer, and filmmaker, discovered his passion for writing at the age of 24 on a Pacific island. He reported from crisis areas for Doctors Without Borders. His reports appear in GEO, Spiegel Online, and Al Jazeera. He has published several books, including Warum nicht Mariazell? and Lesereise Lissabon. When he is not traveling, he lives in Vienna. Copyright Author's photo: Georg Bodensein
