Ballroom Night - Jazz zum Swingen und Tanzen
Every year on International Jazz Day, the Jazz Initiative Schwetzingen hosts its Ballroom Night. This time, the SAP Big Band, with singer Sandie Wollasch, will get the dance-loving audience swinging.
In 1996, a jazz-enthusiastic SAP employee succeeded in getting colleagues together to form a big band. At that time, no one could have guessed that this would mark the beginning of a nearly 30-year success story, during which the band has shared the stage with renowned artists. These include Fola Dada, Pe Werner, Nicole Johänntgen, Jeff Cascaro, Joe Gallardo, Marc Marshall, and many others.
The band's repertoire ranges from swing in the style of Count Basie to pieces by Bill Holman, Peter Herbolzheimer, and other composers and arrangers, as well as modern original arrangements by the SWR Big Band and hr-Bigband. Their playing, which is both tradition-conscious and contemporary, has already been captured on seven studio albums.
Since 2019, trombonist and trained orchestral musician Stephan Kirsch has been leading the SAP Big Band. Kirsch not only knows how to captivate the audience during performances but also inspires the musicians in every rehearsal. He molds the band and passionately expands their musical horizons.
For many years, the SAP Big Band has worked closely with singer Sandie Wollasch, who will also be the star guest of Ballroom Night 2025. Sandie Wollasch has been active in the pop and jazz scene for over 25 years and has collaborated with Tab Two, Edo Zanki, and Peter Kraus, among others. Her extraordinary voice will not only bring jazz standards to life but will also be featured in pieces from her last two solo albums "better." and "Women's Choice," which have been specially arranged for the SAP Big Band. Look forward to a varied evening under the motto "It Has To Feel Good!"
