The Rastatt pianist Frank Dupree gained international attention when he was named the sole laureate of the German Music Competition in 2014. Sebastian Manz, international soloist, brilliant chamber musician, and solo clarinetist of the SWR Symphony Orchestra, has been captivating audiences since 2012 at the Musical Summer with his joy of playing and original programs. He had his breakthrough in 2008 at the ARD Competition, where he became the first clarinetist in 40 years to win both the 1st prize and the audience prize. In 2022, his CD with Herbert Schuch featuring works by Brahms, Schumann, and Gade was released. Schuch creates a dialogue between composers, stage, and audience with his credo of “bringing music not only to sound but also to speak” through well-thought-out programs of the highest level.

The Danish composer Niels Wilhelm Gade drew his inspiration from Nordic literature and shaped his style with folk-like melodies. His Ossian Overture became a great success and found an enthusiastic supporter in Robert Schumann. Schumann's Fantasy Pieces op. 12 are inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s character, the conductor Johannes Kreisler. They reflect his “eccentric, wild, witty” nature (Schumann) but are interrupted by lyrical, “very intimate” episodes.
