Over 40 years of theater, comedy, open-air stages, tours, car breakdowns, stories that only life can write: comical, tragic, quirky – hardly believable yet so happened.
This quirky mix of comedy and musical cabaret with a healthy dose of self-irony is probably unique. Perfect nonsense with bite, witty, fast-paced, nonstop parody.
They are, after all, washed with all the waters of the Elbe! One must be curious...

The curtain of the old traveling stage reveals a land nobleman who is not satisfied with reality. Inspired by many knight novels, he chooses his neighbor Sancho Panza as his squire and sets off as the self-proclaimed knight Don Quijote to make the world a better place. They see castles in inns, sheep herds become armies, and mills turn into giants. They fight their way from one ridiculous adventure to the next, constantly failing yet never losing their courage. Because Don Quijote wants to be a hero! But is it enough to pretend to be a hero in order to be one?
The actors of the traveling stage also have to deal with failure; they step in for each other, take on new roles and new perspectives, and fight for their version of Don Quijote.
Does imagination still have the power to change the world? Does theater have this power?
And if so, which stories should then be presented on the boards that mean the world?

On the occasion of 40 years of Chawwerusch Theater, Chawwerusch dedicates itself to these questions and takes a closer look at "Don Quijote," this pioneer of utopia. With a large ensemble, outdoors, and with music – comical, tragic, heartfelt.

ES WAS ONCE and was also not...

The origins of most fairy tales go back thousands of years. They have been passed down from generation to generation and are rich in imagination, violence, rough justice, and wonders in all their simplicity. Fairy tales are connected with childhood and the personal memories of each of us. Heinrich Heine recalls in Germany. A Winter's Tale about his nurse, who told stories of the goose maid and the talking horse head.
It is a comforting pleasure to hear the same fairy tale over and over again, as it magically leads us to a happy ending. Ton und Kirschen wants to awaken the magic, but also the warnings inherent in fairy tales, through acting, music, dance, puppet and mask play into a shared experience with the audience, allowing space for the imagination of each individual viewer. And – even what is unsaid has meaning.

Ton und Kirschen Theater
The Ton und Kirschen Theatre was founded by Margarete Biereye and David Johnston in May 1992 in Glindow (near Potsdam) after 20 years of theatre experience with the English Footsbarn Travelling Theatre. The theatre rehearsals take place on a property in the district of Glindow. Here, the set is built, and the making of props, costumes, masks, and puppets also takes place. From here, Ton und Kirschen travels with its productions in all directions of the state of Brandenburg. We set up our stage and auditorium at various performance locations. Every year we perform in Potsdam and Berlin and in other cities in Germany. We have also often been invited to theatre festivals abroad. So we have performed in many countries (Ireland, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Belgium, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland, and repeatedly in France) and on different continents (Asia, North Africa, and several times in South America).

The currently 7-member ensemble of the theatre comes from Germany, England, Wales, France, and Colombia. Under the artistic direction of David Johnston and Margarete Biereye, 26 productions have been created.

The compact lady would never have dreamed in 1984 that 40 years later she would still be performing on stages that mean rent for many... and that in the rather conservative south of the republic in a genre where others only dance for a summer.

This year there will be no fixed program; Wommy curates every evening specifically and presents what she feels like: new stories, new songs, retrospectives, and highlights in revised form - sometimes solo, sometimes with Sister Bärbel, sometimes with a pianist, sometimes with a band... but mostly with Elfriede Schäufele, the cult caretaker from the SWR carnival shows. Each evening will be unique, every evening is practically a "Wonder-bag" - and the homepage http://www.wommy.de will provide detailed information about the line-up for each respective evening.

A warm welcome then to breathtaking evenings filled with beautiful chansons, sharp satires, colorful bon mots, and light entertainment with depth for heart, mind, and diaphragm – always close to life and in tune with the times. Every evening, Frl. Wommy Wonder, the quintessential drag artist, navigates the keyboard of great feelings and invites you on a roller coaster of emotions from cabaret, comedy, and chanson.

Anyone who wants to laugh heartily while keeping the level high is in the right place, and if Wommy ever finds herself at a loss, her alter ego Elfriede Schäufele will surely chime in with her two cents (unsolicited). Much to the delight of the audience, and this should not change.

All in all, punchlines in staccato with a density of gags rarely found – and yet there is still time in between for reflective songs and emotions, making the evening linger in everyday life for a long time, because "Laughter is the last weapon we have left when we find everything else to be crying out for!"
