Christine Thürmer - Wander Woman
When Christine Thürmer was born in 1967, nothing indicated that she would one day become the most hiked woman in the world.
At school, she was the top student in her class but was absolutely terrible in sports. So, she first made a steep career as a manager before realizing, after an unexpected termination and the death of a friend, that time – and not money – is the most important resource in life.
Completely untrained, she hiked the Pacific Crest Trail, covering 4,277 kilometers from Mexico to Canada – despite having flat feet, knock knees, and being overweight! And that was just the beginning: since then, she has walked over 60,000 kilometers and crossed the USA and Europe three times each.
Why does she prefer to prepare for her tours on the computer rather than in the gym? Why doesn’t she wear underwear while hiking but carries a garbage bag? And what makes her life so incredibly happy? When the audience asks her questions live, she doesn’t shy away from any answer and even presents her quirkiest hiking outfit. With many funny, exciting, and thought-provoking anecdotes, the four-time bestselling author describes her journey from couch potato to long-distance hiker and her outdoor daily life as a solo female traveler. She also shares amazing practical tips, tour ideas from Brandenburg to Japan, and a demonstration of her minimalist gear.
A feel-good show without campfire romance and outdoor clichés for everyone who wants to set off on their own adventure or is simply interested in a life on the trail.
Christine Thürmer, born in 1967 in Forchheim, had a career as a manager after her studies. Following an involuntary career break, she permanently hung up her job in 2007 and has since dedicated herself exclusively to long-distance hiking, cycling, and paddling. With over 60,000 kilometers on foot, she is probably the most hiked woman in the world and is known among outdoor enthusiasts as the "German Tourist." She has trekked three times across both the USA and all of Europe and has also cycled 38,000 kilometers and paddled 7,000 kilometers in between. She has been awarded the Triple Crown Award, the ITB Book Award in 2017 and 2021, and the first prize of the Discovery Days in 2019 for the best presentation. Her books "Run. Eat. Sleep." about the American trails, "Hike. Cycle. Paddle." about her trips in Europe, "Hiking Long Distances" with her condensed outdoor know-how, and the tour guide "Around the World in 25 Ways" were on the Spiegel Bestseller list for months.
