NEÀNDER - „Auf Achse“
On September 13, the new neànder single will be released. "Ultra" is also the first song from the new album of the Berlin band, which will be released on November 8, bringing together all the threads of their previous history and finding overwhelming clarity.
The human existence in digital times is accompanied by a constant din of language, words, and opinions. It is a cacophony, it is all too much. The more is spoken and written, the less is sometimes said.
The Berlin band neànder has no words. Guitarists Jan Korbach, Michael Zolkiewicz, and Patrick Zahn, as well as drummer Flo Häuser, speak through their instruments instead. This is not a cliché but is audible and palpable in the new neànder single, "Ultra."
"Ultra" is the first single from the third neànder album "III," which will be released in November 2024. The song begins with a melancholy atmospheric piano that sounds almost innocent. Into this idyll breaks a storm, a martial primal force in the form of a riff-driven wall of sound, which is overlaid by a melody, and like a whipped sea, it alternately rushes forward and recedes. The view becomes clear and expands; the majestic riff is indeed: ultra.
Everything is now in motion, one thinks of endless landscapes and unknown worlds. And by the way, if we have so far refrained from genre classifications in this text, it is because neànder cannot be meaningfully categorized into any genre. Of course, this music is somehow post-rock, grunge, metal, prog, ambient, and even pop – but at the same time, it is not.
"There is now a neànder sound," says Jan Korbach. "I notice it already with the first idea for a new song. Something suddenly grabs me, I grab the guitar, and it becomes clear: This is neànder!"
You might have to imagine this new neànder music a bit as if Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Prong, Mogwai, Black Sabbath, Faith No More, and Venom were to play a joint session in 2024, and out would come "Ultra," this song.
And by the way, perhaps the most important thing is: "Ultra" is a song, not just a track. With a chorus that you won't forget quickly. Only no one is singing.
neànder ignite a cleansing power with "Ultra," until this incredibly physical music miraculously drives away the chaos in the mind. Suddenly, everything appears very clear. And then it starts all over again... November will be here soon. It will be a good autumn.
