Puppentheater Magdeburg + Théâtre de l’Entrouvert + Vélo Théâtre: Re-member
„‘Maybe I am made of lime wood‘, introduces the little limb marionette. She is blind and naked. ‘I have no knees, only legs, but with these I can wiggle.’ She says and starts to wiggle. Then, more marionettes rustle in their bags in the stage sky. Each figure is special in its movements – what the material and puppet construction allows. They dance a twitching ceremony, which becomes a delightful enchantment.” (fidena.de)
Inspired by the writings of contemporary thinkers like Vinciane Despret, Donna Haraway, Anna Tsing, and Tim Ingold, the piece questions our relationship with the world of the living and the non-living, the place of humans in the organic world. Inspired by Donna Haraway's theory of play with threads, Élise Vigneron from Théâtre de l’Entrouvert, the figure player, director, and professor of puppet theater Julika Mayer from Erlangen, and the ensemble of the Puppentheater Magdeburg engage in a collective approach to explore what it means to be part of something. They investigate the connectedness, the longing for it, and the effort to remain connected. Tree trunks, branches, bark, grass, moss, a crowd of marionettes, and the five performers evoke memories of nature.
With historical marionettes from the Magdeburg Puppet Theater, the five performers invite you to a grand festival of the living and the dead. In an open rehearsal process between Germany and France, where everyone could contribute equally, an ode to nature and life was created.
