Exploring the Open-Pit Mine by Off-Road Vehicle
What has always made Rüdersdorf, a small town in Brandenburg, so unique is a quirk of nature: About 800 years ago, in the midst of the sand-encrusted surroundings of Berlin, a gentle hill of limestone stood out in an otherwise flat landscape. The stone was quarried and used as dimensional stone for buildings. By the 16th century, Rüdersdorf was already producing quicklime, and from 1885 onward, cement. The Rüdersdorf Museum Park is the only historic lime and quarry preserved in such diversity worldwide.
During our Quarry Tour, we will drive along the edge of the active limestone quarry in off-road vehicles. The tour offers many interesting and unique insights into quarry operations, narrated in an engaging manner by our tour guides. Besides experiencing the unique geology, you will also see the massive machinery within the quarry.
Due to safety regulations, exiting the vehicle within the quarry is unfortunately not permitted.
Duration of the tour: approx. 1 hour.
Minimum age: 6 years.
Please arrive at the ticket counter of the Museum Park, Heinitzstraße 9, 15562 Rüdersdorf near Berlin, approximately 10 minutes before the tour begins.
