The focus of the 1st Tegernsee Art Masters is the life's work of the artist Stefan Szczesny. With this art project, the Tegernsee Valley will become a stage for art from June to October 2024:
Art around the lake: Thirty huge, colorful steel shadow sculptures and glass stelae by the artist Stefan Szczesny will enter into dialogue with the spectacular natural backdrop of the lake and the surrounding mountains through a play of light and shadow, subtle forms, and transparencies. The colorful steel sculptures, which have already been exhibited worldwide, including in New York, Miami, London, Paris, St. Barth, and St. Tropez, where the artist has lived since 2000, will come together again for the exhibition at Tegernsee and will be placed at prominent locations throughout the Tegernsee Valley.
The highlight is the 6.5-meter tall sculpture "Tree of Life," which was created in 2014 on the occasion of the retrospective "Szczesny: Metamorphoses Méditerranéennes." The "Tree of Life" is a vision of the earthly paradise and an ode to the happiness of life, which is dear to the artist Stefan Szczesny. The scene depicts figures moving within the structure of the tree. The reflections of the mirror-polished figures allow the "Tree of Life" to capture light and harmoniously blend into the surroundings through the play of light and transparencies. The sculpture was exhibited in the summer of 2015 at the Villa Domergue, then at the Citadel of Saint-Tropez during the exhibition "Szczesny: Sculptures 2005-2017," and in 2022 in the courtyard of the town hall of Grimaud. This masterpiece by Szczesny was brought to Tegernsee with the support of the Cosmo Art & Science Foundation.
In addition to these Szczesny sculptures, a large Szczesny retrospective featuring paintings, ceramics, and sculptures will be shown in the Galerie RPN Fine Arts in Rottach-Egern in June & July 2024.
