The London-based Barbican String Quartet, one of the best chamber ensembles of the young generation, performs at the Kursaal in Überlingen. The young artists won the first prize at the ARD Music Competition in Munich in 2022 and are now performing on various international concert stages.

The Kurpfälzisches Chamber Orchestra Mannheim, one of the best German chamber orchestras, performs in our concert series. The artists have been welcome guests at the Überlinger Kursaal for many years. The program includes masterpieces from the Baroque, Classical, and early Romantic periods.
Our soloists Ryo Yamanishi and Jan Schmitz Marcó are both first prize winners at the Int. Lake Constance Music Competition in Überlingen. Hans-Peter Hofmann, concertmaster of the orchestra and professor at the University of Music Saarbrücken, is also well-known to our audience.

The Amelio Piano Trio was founded in Frankfurt am Main in 2012 and is now one of our outstanding chamber music ensembles. In the summer of 2022, the ensemble was awarded at the Gianni Bergamo Chamber Music Competition in Lugano. The audience can look forward to an exceptional concert.

The Stuttgart Soloists, members of various Stuttgart orchestras or professors at German music universities, perform masterpieces for wind instruments by the great Viennese classical composers Mozart and Beethoven. Our audience will experience an extraordinary sonic experience with great artists.

The exhibition BODY WORLDS in Berlin is dedicated to the theme "Facets of Life".

Dr. Gunther von Hagens opens up the human body in his Body Worlds exhibitions, making the fragile, worthy structures of life visible to medical laymen. Together with curator Dr. Angelina Whalley, he shows in the exhibition in Berlin-Mitte the facets of life - between happiness and unhappiness, pressure and equilibrium, chance and fate, obsession with the body and forgetfulness of the body, as well as excess and modesty.

The museum opened its doors in Berlin in 2015. It is located at Alexanderplatz directly in front of the Berlin TV Tower. Since then, visitors have had the opportunity to marvel at a variety of unique plastinates. These provide a deep insight into the highly complex interior of the human body. Interested individuals receive detailed knowledge about organ functions and common diseases, all easily understandable. The lifelike poses establish an immediate connection to the viewers.

What connects us, what keeps us upright and in motion, what makes us laugh and love? At BODY WORLDS, you will find answers to these and many other questions. The first BODY WORLDS museum presents unique plastinates that show the function of individual organs as well as common diseases. It gives insights into the highly complex and structures of the human body and shows what connects us, keeps us upright and in motion, and what makes us laugh and love.

In search of his youth club in Torgau, Sascha goes to the places he knew from the 1970s. Along the way, he encounters traces from long past times, meets people from back then, and stories come to life again. Stories of young people who shaped their free time themselves. Who founded their club, mastered the pitfalls of everyday life carefree and unburdened, and thus grew beyond themselves. They spent a lot of time in their club, met people who understood them, and also those for whom their actions were a thorn in the side. The club had to overcome crises, got its own space, and eventually a new name. Despite massive resistance from above, with the help of the Cuban embassy, the youth club of Residential District XII became the "Ernesto Che Guevara" youth club. Before the GDR fell, the club disappeared.

Welcome to the realm of knowledge in the Baroque era: Stepping onto creaking floorboards into the quiet grandeur of our historical library hall, one is immediately enveloped by the collective knowledge of the Early Modern period. Like stage sets in a Baroque theater, the original bookshelves jut into the space, housing around 50,000 books from all fields of knowledge. Behind unassuming book spines lie remarkable treasures, such as the first German Bible printed in America.

At the end of the 17th century, the orphanage's library was established as one of the first public libraries in Germany. Primarily through donations, book exchanges, and their own publications, the library grew so rapidly that within a few years, it was comparable to significant German university libraries. In 1728, it received its own building, which is considered the oldest surviving secular library structure in Germany. Not only in recent times has the library been visited by guests and researchers from around the world: Albrecht von Haller, Johann Joachim Winckelmann, and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe all admired its bibliophilic treasures. We present a selection of them for you in rotating cabinet exhibitions in the former reading room of the library.

The Art and Natural History Chamber is considered the oldest German museum room. It was established by August Hermann Francke for educational purposes and is now once again set up according to the original museum concept of the 18th century in its historical location in the attic of the Historical Orphanage.

Eighteen richly decorated collection cabinets house approximately 3000 natural specimens, curiosities, and artifacts. They provide a unique impression of a Baroque cabinet of curiosities. Unlike modern museums, the chamber follows an encyclopedic collecting approach. A distinction is made between natural specimens and artifacts. The natural specimens are divided into rocks, plants, and animals, while the artifacts are categorized into visual arts, calligraphy, coins, everyday culture, and clothing. The goal was to create a mirror image of the world: a microcosm that made the macrocosm as the wonderful creation of God tangible.

In a series of events, art projects take place around the Art and Natural History Chamber. In the so-called "Contemporary Reflections on the Art and Natural History Chamber," foundations invite artists to engage in an artistic dialogue with the chamber.

Palace-like, the orphanage rises on Franckeplatz. Then as now, it is the centerpiece of the Francke Foundations. Erected in 1698 as the first building of the school city, it represents a new facet of European Baroque, combining confident representation without extravagant ornamentation and setting the tone for orphanage architecture.

Today, the orphanage is our museum and cultural center. Right from the start, two permanent exhibitions guide you through the history of the foundation and the global impact of Pietism. On the first floor, the former prayer and singing hall surprises with its bright architecture. Today, it enjoys an excellent reputation as a concert hall due to its fantastic acoustics. In the adjacent conference rooms, a photo exhibition showcases the impressive renovation work since the foundations were reestablished in 1991. The second floor is reserved for our changing special exhibitions, which provide insight into important themes of the foundation's history from both a historical and contemporary perspective. Passing through the art and natural history collections in the attic, you reach the balcony via a narrow wooden staircase. Here, a wide view opens up over the impressive ensemble with school buildings from three centuries. There is also a splendid panorama of the Old Town of Halle from here. In the basement, children can explore their own paths in the Krokoseum.

What power does the word have? For Halleschen Pietismus, the word was of central importance. On the ground floor of the Historical Orphanage, we show you how August Hermann Francke's reform movement could spread around the world.

Francke developed central reformative goals of Martin Luther's with Halleschen Pietismus. His approach was as clear as it was revolutionary: Every person should find God through their own Bible reading. However, for this to happen, everyone - boys and girls alike - had to learn to read, everyone should be able to afford their own Bible and it should be printed in their own native language. Therefore, Francke established schools for all social classes, printed millions of German-language People's Bibles, and created an international network through which the Bible was translated into many other languages. His educational initiative allowed a broad population to engage with the word. In the 18th-century evangelical parsonages, the authors of the Romantic and Enlightenment periods were highly regarded. A culture of self-reflection spread in Pietism, which was reflected in diaries and personal testimonies, giving us remarkable insights into the spiritual life of people of that time. Symbolically, the power of the word is also evident in the meticulously restored pulpit from the Church of St. Ulrich in Halle, where Francke preached from 1715 and which you can admire in the exhibition.

4 talers and 16 groschen are considered the founding capital of the Francke Foundations. How an unparalleled school city grew from this unexpected donation to a simple pastor in Glaucha can be discovered on the ground floor of the Historical Orphanage. A multimedia installation and numerous extraordinary objects will transport you into the fascinating founding and impact history of Francke's work. Because what began with a school for the poor and an orphanage, developed in a few decades into a true reform project that was based on education: Over 2,000 students learned in various schools, specially constructed economic buildings, a hospital, and a pharmacy guaranteed the care of over 3,000 people on the premises, unique cultural-historical collections in the library and chamber of wonders were established, and Francke's ideas were spread within and outside Europe. August Hermann Francke wanted nothing less than a "world change through personal change." Discover everything he set in motion through this.

Psalm 42 As the deer cries is one of Mendelssohn's most famous works. Wonderfully balanced and developed from the images of the Psalm, the enchanting solos, the effects of the symphonic instrumentation, and the sometimes lyrical, sometimes brilliantly resplendent choral parts appear. Thanks to the |:Mendelssohn:| cycle, Kay Johannsen can also present other compositions, such as the magically imaginative, Mozart-like Kyrie. The hymn Why, O Lord is performed with English text and orchestra instead of organ – an example of Mendelssohn's work that was strongly oriented towards the English audience. With this concert, Stuttgart Kantorei celebrates a milestone birthday!

Reinhold Beckmann tells and reads from his deeply moving book. His Spiegel bestseller about the life of his mother Aenne is a memorial against forgetting, especially now that war has returned to Europe - and at the same time a work full of love and hope.

The life of Reinhold Beckmann's mother Aenne was marked by loss from an early age. She was an orphan by the age of five. She had four brothers, all of whom fell in the war. And yet, it was a successful life. Unlike many of her generation, she never remained silent about her grief and fears. Aenne's brothers and parents always remained present, in conversations, photos, commemorative days, and memories.

In his book, Reinhold Beckmann tells the story of his mother and of Franz, Hans, Alfons, and Willi, amidst the harsh daily life in the village, Catholic tradition, and the beginning of dictatorship. And about what war does to people when no one comes back.

Throughout her life, Aenne was haunted by the fate of her brothers – and it also shaped the life of Reinhold Beckmann: showing a stance against war and violence was obvious for both of them.

A forest lodge in Poland around 1930: A young man, early widowed, father of a daughter, is trapped in grief. He is visited by his younger brother. He is terminally ill, but full of joy of life and plays waltzes, foxtrots, and hit songs on the piano day in, day out, which he heard in the outside world. Outside the house, folk songs can be heard. Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz, a close friend of the composer Karol Szymanowski, succeeded with the narrative "The Birch Grove" in creating a sensual and philosophical piece of literature, which was also filmed in 1970 by the Polish Oscar winner Andrzej Wajda.

Since its founding in 2016, "Theater Grenzenlos" has taken on the task of implementing artistically challenging theater projects with young refugees that not only address their often very traumatic escape stories, but also focus particularly on the loss of home and the search for belonging in a new country. We present the latest production "Balance".
A kingdom is in imbalance. Nuri is chosen to venture out into the world, gain new perspectives, seek solutions, and restore the balance. On his journey, he meets Zada, who accompanies him. A strong friendship develops between the two. Together, they delve into the depths of the world, soar to unexpected heights, overcome boundaries, and break through inner and outer walls. They encounter fears, hopes, deceptions, and dreams in a search for what it means to find balance in the world. How can this happen? How can we truly gain new visions, a new togetherness, and rediscover our own balance? We accompany Nuri and Zada in their search for new perspectives and balance, through conflicts, resting and wandering, dancing and balancing.
